I got 2 kribs, from different sources with hopes that they'd 'breed' like
guppies.... haha... well, they're not even coming out to see each other or
even eat... the come out one at time....

Is there a way to convince them to meet?

the tank they are in is a 10g, chock full of plants and a clay pot.... I'll
show pics tonite, I promise...

bob, I'm going to post some pics tonite over in the binary group.... just
for you...

I've been told I'm going to have to get rid of the plants in the 10 to give
them only 1 place to 'do-it' and maybe I'll have some luck... problem is,
I've got to get some lights on the 55g where all those plants will end
up....

..... I just can't catch up... I have my list of 'to dos' and the wife has
HER list of honey-dos.... At this rate, I'll never be bored... and we've
only been married 6 months... or should I say, after 6 months, I'm still
married... ???? Seems about right....

red, (continuing the top posting thing, which I never thought was so bad
anyway), does your female krib have a deep purple belly? if not she may not
be mature enough to breed.. jsut a thought.

she's got a tinge of pink to her, not quite the purple I've seen before, and
I believe you're right, I think I'll have to get some other females to give
her some security.... I did notice the females hung out together while the 2
males were over in one corner almost guarding something....

I think I will.... Do you know how long they live? average?

more top posting mayhem...

I'm not sure how long they live, I had a couple for about a year, and I gave
them to a mate who still has the female. The male was weak and didn't make
the transition to the new tank. so I don't think the male really died of old
age. anyway the female is still going strong. my friend has got another male
for her but she is totally not interested in him, maybe she is still
mourning?

my advise would be to got the LFS and watch the cribs in the tank.. there
may very well be a pair already formed in the tank. they won't stay together
all the time, but you can kind of see a pair staying fairly close to each
other. the female needs to have a nice deep purple belly, it can even go
black when she is really feeling maternal.

this is just mainly relayed advise from my lfs guy, but it worked for me, my
pair immediately bred in a few days after I got them home./

I'd stick with a pair for sure. I dont think they like to live with others
of thier own sex once they are sexually mature

it took mine about 6-8 weeks together before he stopped beating her into
submission and forcing her to live behind the filter
once she was ready to go though her belly was way way red
she'd fend off his attacks by stuffing the red belly in his face, then when
he was transfixed, nip him right back
it was pretty cool, she reminded me of a little matador

they were in a 2' x 1' x 22" aquarium with a bunch of mollies (eventually
and wisely) staying in the upper half.
not sure what you could put in with them in a 10 gallon, but I think the
other fish being there made them a 'team' in the end
both sexes ended up rearing the fry, alternately taking them for trips
around the bottom while the other fended off other fish from above.

So, it's your recommendation to put 1m/1f together, not a harem....

also, a 10g maybe just enough for the two of them, and NOBODY else, maybe
besides a 4" bristlenose?

Thanks for your help
