Can someone explain to me what his device does? Or if you want to make it
easier, explain whether or not it is beneficial in a cichlid tank(55
gallons).Click the reply email button, so i get notified of your reply. Thanks.

Sorry bud, you'll have to come back here to read it, I don't send email thru
news-servers.... but here's the deal... Protein skimmers mix micro sized
bubbles to waste collected thru the creation of those bubbles, extracts the
waste from the water using the bubbles, but save yourself some time, and use
this link to answer your questions...
www.google.com
We use it all the time to ask 'general' questions... besides, your question
needs to be in the salt water or reef group, this is a freshwater cichlids
group, and no, 99.9% of us don't use a protein skimmer on out tanks, just
hang on tank filters, or canister filters... no skimmers.

I've read that protein skimmers are very inefficient (or at least next
to useless) in freshwater aquariums.

Even better, www.myie2.com! It's like IE, with the benefit of tabbed
browsing, popup control, privacy control, skins, plugins, and a whole
boatload more, for a whopping $0!

A protein skimmer creates a foam which attracts amino acids and proteins
. The foam bubbles up and is collected in a cup as the foam dries.
Freshwater is not dense enough to create this foaming action. A
protein skimmer can still be used on a freshwater aquarium as a degasser
and will benefit the aqarium. It will not have the same benefit of
course that it has in a marine aquarium.
