I'm curious to know what size a pleco should be, relative to the size of
the oscar, before being added to the tank or if it matters. I would
like to put a pleco in with my 6" Oscar, but I don't know if the pleco
should be of a considerable size before being introduced. I currently
have a butterfly pleco (and no, it's not a loach) thats about 3" in
another tank that I'd like to put in with my Oscar, but I've heard that
the butterfly don't get to be as big as some of the more common types of
pleco.... any advice?

A general rule to follow is that the Pleco should be larger than the
Oscar at the time they are introduced, regardless of their size. The
Oscar will, of course, grow much quicker than the Pleco, but then will
generally leave him alone --
