I have a PerformancePro Artesian pump with a priming pot. Do I need to
install a check value on the intake to make it work. I filled the
priming pot with water, but it does not seem to be working. How long
am I supposed to wait to see the water sucked into the pump from the
pond? The pump is at most 1.5 - 2 feet above water level.

With my 0.75hp swimming pool pump I sometimes have to prime it a few times
to get the air out of the pipework and that's after I try to fill the
pipework with water. Also make sure the pipe from the pump is clear and not
restricted and that air cannot be sucked into the pump i.e. the pipework is
airtight.

You want to check the performance of your pump then its no big deal. Why don't you check its performance by yourself.
