Anyone have one/them?? Any input, thinking of a single JD in a 30.... I said
thinking about it..
There are some shops around town that have them for a 1.5" gorgeous colored
JD for $30... but dang, that's $30.... I thought I'd wait a while and let
them saturate the market....
Of course, when I saw it, I thought of JB.... he was the first to enlighten
me...

EB Dempseys.... ??? Seen one on Aquabid the other night for around $30
USD... I know WalMart Canada often hsa some fish cheaper there than we see
down in the US.. I believe Oscars are sold cheaper up there ( Damn I miss
the GWN ) something like $5.99 C where as the local WallyWorld here sells
Oscars for $9.97 USD.. Go figure...

I don't know how they can get away with that, when the breeders over here
are asking $79 and $99 for a specific named pattern....
I was shocked when I saw it for $29.99...

Same here, except they were about $10 CDN.
Some were half eaten, but the ones that were still intact looked
REALLY nice :)

Better Yet,
I saw Grey Tiger Oscars for $2.99CDN one day,
but it was an error in the price. They changed
it to 5.99 a week later. There are beautiful Bettas
there for $2.67CDN, That would be like 1.50$US
I can't understand how they can make a profit.

I don't recall seeing Dempsey's here at Walmart.. The Bettas are sold here
at Walmart for $3.97 USD... It goes with supply and demand. When it comes
down to it, they don't pay very much for thier fish.. I would bet they pay
about 25 to 50 cents a fish on the tropicals.. As far as the feeders go.. I
bet they 50 cents per hundred.. Although Walmart is not to heavy in the fish
market.. Strangely enough.. The Walmarts down here seem to get some very
nice looking Oscars.. Who here is from the praries here?

Bingo. They don't, not on fish, and they don't care (they are 'lost
leaders' to bring people in to buy food and accessories). There has to
be something morally currupt about a business practice which kills live
creatures to advance sales of merchandise.
If the prices are higher in the states, is it because they are funneling
it back into the care of the fish by training the staff and providing
them with the tools and medications needed, or are they just lining their
pockets faster?

For those mentioning JD at Walmart, I'm sure those are normal JD and not
electric blues. Electric blues will hold their price for a long time as
they grow slowly and the demand currently is higher than availability.
$30 is about the going rate for them here in the states.

About the only reason to buy fish from Wal Mart is that they often mislabel
them and /or the staff can't tell one from the other, so you can
occasionally get a $15 fish for .99 cents. On the other hand, fish from Wal
Mart are frequently diseased. There are always dead fish in their tanks
when I have passed by (as I often do when I'm in Wal-Mart for some other
purpose, like my girlfriend dragged me there) and of the few times I have
bought fish from them I'd say at least 1/3 had some kind of disease, in one
case a very serious bacterial infection which killed a number of my fish.
