ya know gorby, the whale of a midas cichlid I have... I have a concern with
algae that is created by the waste production of this fish... so.. I wonder
if there is a pl*co solution I could use... but he's kinda aggressive, and
not sure if I could ever put one in there...
Could I get away with putting a 12"ish pl*co in there with him?? Don't want
to risk it by trial and error...

How large is the Midas? (I forget). I 've kept a 11" to 12" pleco in my 100
gallon when I had a "predator setup" a couple of years back. I had monsters
ranging from a 11" Red Snakehead, to 10" Oscars, a 12" clownknife, a 10" gar
pike and all kinds of other nasties. For obvious reasons, this setup didn't
work out too well once the fish got to the sizes mentioned. The only fish to
be totally unscathed up to the point when I broke down the tank and switched
to RL cichlids, was the pleco. I think, as long as the pleco is around the
same length or larger then your midas, it should be fine. Their armor leaves
them pretty impervious to the sort of weaponry and attitudes a midas would
offer.

I know this is off topic a bit.. But a fellow I was buying some off my stock
from last year had an intresting incident.. He had a nice 10 inch Chocolate
Pl*co in with his Tiger Fish.. He mentioned he left the Tiger fish without
food for two days, for a fasting.. He checked on the third day and noticed
an mass curled up in the corner.. Looked like a pile of dung or something
like that.. Well he went to move it with a net and found ot was the Pl*co..
Or at least the head, connected to the spine bones ( intact to the head
still ) all the way to the tail, which was still there of course..
Everything in between was a snack for his beloved Tiger Fish.. Yuck...

The pl*c is 12-13" and the midas is 14" easy... but the midas is in a 65g,
which may be too cramped for 'both' crap factories.... I just wonder if they
could co-habitate.... without ending up with problems...

i think they will be fine. I'm not familiar w/ tiger fish, but a midas
doesn't really have the kind of teeth required to break through the plecos
carpace. It might get its fins nipped for a while but that should be the
extent of it. Ofcourse, dealing w/ bruisers like this, advice is highly
general, cuz they tend to have a tendency to surprise.

That's the whole problem... he ACTS like he's a terror, but then like a
puppy dog.... you can actually pet him, but if you put your hand in the tank
too far, he'll pull your hair off your arm if you can't get it OUT quick
enough....
I like the pl*co, but he's JUST TOO BIG... and the whole reason for the new
55g was a place to house him....
I guess I'll have to start working on a 150g next... that'll take some
work....
