View Full Version : Flowerhorn Hybrids

I'll be the first to admit, I didn't like them at all, because of the stigma
'hybrid' and relating hybrid to bloodparrots, I duly dismissed any hybrid as
a 'bad thing' .... but is it?

Hybrids were/are different... I'm not defending them, but about the
Flowerhorns.... anyone have them/one?

Oh Red, you know how to stir the hornets nest huh.. I don't own one. Most
likely will never own one.. For much the same reasons I won't own a
Jellybean. I won't go into specifics because it would cause a big stir here,
and the thread would end up being humongous, by people cursing me out.
Ornamental fish they are, and have no real value, and I question thier value
even as pets. Colour strains are a different book for me..

I don't own one, and haven't even seen a live specimen. But from the pics
I'vs seen, I really can't see an improvement over normal trimacs. Nice
mature trimacs are impressive fish with good colors. Even if they were more
colorful, I probably wouldn't buy a hybrid. OTOH, someone must like them or
none would be sold. The blood parrot cichlids certainly seem to be popular.

Its a combination of a Trimac and something else then something else and
then something else... You get the point though, they are a mixture of New
World Cic's, nothing that would come from the wild though.. I have seen some
really neat looking Flower Horns.. Look around the web and there is a lot of
different ones etc.. But not my crank really...

I bought some for the store where I work, to see what they looked like.
They are still juveniles (had them a couple of months) and their
colouration is quite drab so far (like I'd expect a Trimaculatus to look
like). Their only remarkable feature so far is that they are seriously
ornery. For their size, they behave as if they are adult Dempseys. It
was probably a waste of money, and I'm not trying to build a market, but
I was curious, and now I'm stuck with them.
