Long story short- tank is doing whit it is supposed to. Buy a book on
fishkeeping- there are lots of good ones. the 'Dummies' and 'Beginner's
books are good as are many others. Keep it in the bathroom. READ IT! No
substitution for knowledge.

You are doing a "scrub-down" that is, removing all the water
and cleaning the filter system, gravel, etc?
You shouldn't do that.
Go read http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html
or http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/puregold/care/care1.htm#essentials
for the correct procedures and the reasons behind them.
Or as a previous responder mentioned, any of dozens of
beginner's books will provide the same info.

Green indicates algae: make sure the tank doesn't receive
direct sunlight, and best to located it in the darkest
corner of the room.
However, as previous poster said, you're apt to see
some murkiness, not to the point of opaque, but visible,
until your tank is fully cycled. Again, read the info
cited above.

Because the stores hire professionals. You might
try taking a cupful of your tank water to them and ask
for help.
