Chlorine bleach. Rinse them really well before putting them back into
the tank.

Do I just put them in pure bleach or what? How long will I have to leave
them in there for?

I use about 1/8 to 1/4 cup bleach to a gallon of water -- depends on
how heavy the algae is. Soak for 1-3 hours, rinse under running hot
water, then soak in water with a double dose of de-chlor for an hour.

This has worked well for me.

I have a massive sword growing in the corner of the tank and then two
plastic ones at the front because my lion heads were digging them up. My
other two planted tanks are doing fine, thanks for inquiring.

Hi Phil. Didn't mean any insult. I just thought it was amusing to see a
question about a plastic plant in a live plant newsgroup...kind of like
asking about taking care of a doll versus a real baby :)

I've never heard of combining plastic and live plants...you might be
starting a new trend! I have one 48 gallon that has really massive swords as
well. Their leaves can get to be nearly 3 feet if I don't crop them
off...plus they are growing tonnes of little guys on shooters.

cheers,
Dave.

Most of my 35 tanks have live plants however a couple, one a 55 hex has live
Java fern, anubias however does not have sufficient light to grow tall
plants so I have put in some artificial and it looks quite well. Also in a
75 that has 8 Caquetaia myersi along with 4 Metynnis argenteus as dithers
and who are virtual lawnmowers I have a lot of artifical plants along with
some live species. Works well and I do occasionally bleach the plastic
plants in a diluted solution for a few minutes and rinse well.
