The three garden stores I went to last week had either not heard of
potash, didn't have it, or tried to sell me "green sand" which I think
was 0-0-5. Will try Ace Hardware or Coastal Farm tomorrow. Finally found
some good big and healthy WHs at a reasonable rate and have added
them to pond. With those and a little potash hope to be able to clear my
pond water to at least 2 feet by next weekend -- of course 85 to 95
degree weather today through Sunday may not help.

Cool. I look this weekend. It seems the water softener aisles at the Depot,
have only salt. Although...I wonder if I just inserted my foot in my mouth.
Isn't KCl a salt?

BV.

Yes but not table salt, NaCl. KCl is more expensive than NaCl but attractive
for water softeners because a high sodium diet is bad for humans. I got mine
at a dedicated water softener company so I don't know about home stores. I too
looked at all the local garden stores and no potash.

Yep, so is aspirin. (sodium salts of asaticylic(sp) acid) If you ever
go to Canada, where Bayer still holds the trademark on aspirin, you buy
generic ASA tablets.

KCl is used in water softeners instead of NaCl for people that have
sodium sensitivity.

So is powder cocaine. <G>

I forget the exact chemical definition for "salt" but it is a family of
chemicals, I think that dissolve in water. At least that is the reason
for making most medicines "salts", so that they will dissolve in the
body.
