I have a 55 gallon that I now have set up to transfer my goldie to...but
the difference in the PH is driving me nuts...I have been working on it
for two days now...the tank she is in is at 7.2 the new tank is at
7.6...and that the best it ha been yet...I keep doing water changes and
exchanges...
I've kept this goldie for two years now and its a beauty...never had
this big of a difference problem...I am attempting to get her ready for
the change..was planning on today till I came up against this...this
will be her third tank...
I don't want to shock her...jeesh shes eleven inches long now...

Transfer some water from the old tank to the new tank.

Older tanks accumulate "stuff" that lowers the pH over time. Move say 10
gallons over to the new tank from the old tank. Measure pH in the new
tank. If it is within 0.2 go for it. Otherwise, add some more water
from the old tank, 10 gallons at a pop until it is.

Alternatively, if you have a big "fish tub" mix the water from the old
tank and new tank at 50%. Add air stone (and heater if necessary).
Move your friend to the tub for 24 hours then to the new tank.

Should work ok either way.

that is not enough of a pH shift to cause problems. 0.4-1.0 above 7.0 or going below
7.0 would be a bit too much. Ingrid
