Hi Everyone

I have recently acquired a Oranda and it has been nothing but problems
yet....

First it started getting a fungus looking growth on its headgrowth - I
treated this with a general anti-fungal medication and it went away which I
was pleased about. BUT...

Then the fish started pine-coning so I treated for this and it seems to have
reduced and gone away too. Great I hear you saying... BUT....

Now I have had a look this morning and the fish has a large "bubble" coming
out of the right gill chamber??? So now I am stumped??!?

Water parameters in the main tank are all good and temperature is about
24-25 celcius. Through all of this the fish has not even seemed worried
about anything. Sometimes is a little lethargic but nothing out of the
ordinary.

Thanks for any help!

If he's new, maybe he's stressed, have you tried a little
salt?

move the fish out of the tank into a bowl of the tank water and see if you can break
the bubble. cant use anything on the gill to treat. but what are your water quality
parameters, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH? do you add a bit of salt? 1 teaspoon
salt per 5 gallons, no additives, dissolve first, add slowly.
quarantine for a new fish means more water than in a typical tank... optimal water
conditions. I would suggest keeping the nitrates at or under 10 ppm for a while.
