I'm really begining to wonder what I should feed my fish.

At present I have two or three blocks of corgette (zuccini?) floating
around my tank. My fish are happy to munch.

In the morning I feed them one frozen blood worm tablet. This is
mainly eaten by the bigger fish. The corydoras? seem content sucking
bits off the castle and ground (as they are ground feeders, this is
not suprising)

I don't like feeding them too much protein, and the corgette seems to
stop them nibbling the plant.

What foods should I rotate etc which won't damage my wallet and won't
upset my poor oranda which just a few bits of cheap flake food will
make it float and swim sideways (dodgy swim bladder I think we
diagnosed! any cure for that?)

I feed pellets in the morning, which I first soak in tank water to remove
excess air; then give a pea (frozen, thawed and shelled) in the afternoon,
and home-made gel food at night. I find my Oranda needs the peas, too. I
was working on the potato harvest for the past 5 weeks. My babysitter was
giving them their peas for the first week, and then didn't bother after
that, and didn't tell me. The oranda has been mostly floating ever since.
He has a poop and seems better for a while, and then ends up floating again.
At the moment, I am feeding him ONLY peas until I can clear this up, and
then I will make sure he gets them daily as part of the regular routine,
even if I have to feed them with his breakfast...

I have read many times that gf like a variety... lettuce and cucumbers I
also give as treats occasionally. I put them on a small plate with a little
water, and microwave for about 45 seconds to soften them, then shred a
little bit so they can get hold and bite. The gel food I feed is mostly
veggies as well (1/3 peas, some meat - one is tuna, another is dew worms -
and rest mixed veggies).
