When I went to the LFS, I had decided to buy an oranda - looking at
their limited choice, I decided on a tiny, very active little
chocolate oranda. All the rest had already begun their headgrowth,
but I really wanted to see it happen gradually.

I've had the fish since last christmas, and he's still not started it.
I am begining to wonder if he really is an oranda, or maybe a cross
breed?

Pictures will follow when he sits still (prepared to wait?)

Genetics play a big part in head growth so it looks like the others were
blessed with wens and he wasn't. Having said that, I have an oranda who was
quite large when I got him (at least a couple of years old) and he had no
headgrowth at all. He has now though, in the last few weeks, suddenly
started to develop some. Keep your water quality perfect, feed a really good
quality and varied diet, and give him lots of space and you might have the
same luck.
