View Full Version : Sound muffled hood

The waterfall sound from my penguin filters is driving my wife nuts. Does
anyone have any knowledge of a sound-muffling hood or know how to make a
sound muffling hood? It would have to fit a standard 30"x12" 29g tank and
somehow enclose the two penguin filters (a 330 and mini). Its the sound
from the Penguin 330, I only use the mini because it seemed like a waste not
to do something with my old tank's filter. Changing the tank's water level
does not affect the noise from the filter and not a desirable option
anyways.

My other option is to buy a quieter filter systems, which would suck because
I am really happy with the penguin.

Thanks,
E.Otter

The only sound solution I've found with Penguins is to have a high enough water
level that there's no drop off at all...

Don't know how ppl find the waterfall noise desirable, it drove me nuts too.

He's right: and the same is true of the Emperor models as well.
Bring the water up to where there's no drop and it'll be much
quieter.

I had a similar problem with my filter at home but it was me driven nuts, I
put a piece of dacron from the filter to the water for the water to dribble
down and the problem was solved.

i didnt need the filter for airation I have an air pump for that which is
suspended by fishing line and nearly silent

cheers
