Hi All,
After a vigorous mating session my female goldfish left 4 eggs on the glass
of the tank 1 hatched on the weekend well 3am sunday morning, I tried to
catch it but I couldnt catch it, since seeing it the first time I havent
been able to see it again. I suspect it may have been eaten.
Next time I have a fish produce eggs is there a product I can buy to try and
protect them from my other fish when they hatch? or will I just need to play
a chasing game with a net again?
cheers

Yep get them out of there and into a large tub with tank water in.
Parents will eat poor fry!

You need to remove the eggs a.s.a.p. Goldies lay absolutely loads of eggs so
I expect that most of yours got eaten before you even saw them! I always put
mine into a dark container, then you can spot any that turn white (these
need to be discarded). The eggs (and the fry when hatched) shouldn't be in
any more than 6 inches of water. If you move them to a tank make sure there
is no gravel as you wont be able to spot the fry.

normally, breeders put a female and a couple small males into a spawning tank with
lots of spawning mats and when they are done, they move the adults out. then they
take the spawning mats out and scoop up the eggs move them to hatching tanks. very
controlled temps and pristine water. Ingrid
