Moving day

Well...

With the average outside temperature dropping significantly below 60 deg
F it was time to move Hans, my tub garden red/white comet inside. (We
lost Frans (white/red) to a raccoon several weeks ago.)

So Hans is now in a 25 gal tall in the garage. Thermostat set for 66 deg
F. One pre-cycled Penguin 170 and one "newish" Penquin 170. Also moved
the anachris from the tub.

Did the normal temperature and water equalization dance. I'll just have
to see how he does.

This morning Hans was swimming freely, plenty of poop, and no clamped
fins. Unless we get a long term stress related illness things are
looking good for the moment.

Um, no. But not out of ignorance.

I thought about doing the clean up, but since Hans is by himself (and
won't be getting any buddies and doesn't share equipment, etc.) I
didn't consider it necessary.

My apologies. My assumption was the cleaning of the fish was to prevent
pond cooties from getting to the indoor fish. Instead it is to prevent
pond cooties from overcoming the fish in the new, less than natural
indoor environment.

Given that he's already in, what of the clean up still makes sense. (I'm
assuming that I'll need to sterilize the tank.) Fortunately I have a
couple more Penguin 170 biowheels in active use...

actually, right on both counts. but quarantine needed to protect indoor fish.
I would do a salt dip first, in a couple days do a peroxide dip and a day later do PP
or QC every other day 3X. feed antibiotic food for a week to 10 days. coming in is
very stressful just having to turn around when swimming all the time. keep eagle eye
on fish. Ingrid

it strips off the slime coat and with it parasites. then a bit of salt in the water
and the fish starts making new slime. slime contains both antibody and
anti-microbial proteins. Ingrid

yeah... or light bleach solution, like 1:10 dilution and then rinse like crazy. I
use betadine cause it is so easy and much less toxic to me when I use it. Ingrid
