I'm heartened to see that folks like this still exist,
and are driven to answer Life's Great Mysteries.

I've ordered some extra sensitive recording equipment
for my own research in this area, and suggest we, as a
group, help BWilson to uncover the true purpose(s) of
this phenomenon. My own suggestions depend on resolution
of a related question, namely: how do they smell?

Too funny - how do they know that is the herring and not a sonar producing
animal making that noise.

Cheryl

But of course! I'd suggest changing the subject line to
read "Fish Farts: Fact or Fiction?" since it sounds better.

I can't believe what I'm hering
To say a fish farts is so daring
to wonder aloud
if it causes a cloud
Think he's handed us a red herring
