View Full Version : red poop

I have 2 demekins (calico) I just brought home on Thursday. They are quite
young, I would say, and are about 1" in length, with nice long fins. They
are in my 5g tank for quarantine at the moment. When I did a water
change/gravel cleaning this morning, I noticed red, slightly stringy poop.
Is this from the change in water/food? I am feeding Medigold to a sick
Oranda at the moment. Should I give some to the demekins as well? They are
active, but do like to stay at the bottom of the tank and rarely rise above
1/2 way up.

Thanks,
Tammy

Not red. They have been eating flakes, peas and gel food since I brought
them home, but I don't know what they were eating before that. I do know
they had cucumber and lettuce in the tank. On the same diet, I rarely see
poop in my other tanks. I noticed the panda Oranda I got has the same thing
(red poop). He's in a different tank but on the same diet.

I put them on the Medigold anyways, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

I feed red/brown pellets to my fish sometimes - this makes
their poop a clayish reddish colour.

I guess it is just from whatever they were eating before. I've put them all
on Medigold anyways. I have an Oranda on it, and will have tons left over,
so I may as well use it. If anyone in Canada needs some Medigold, let me
know and I'll figure out a way to send you some for a few bucks. I'll never
use all I have, and it will go bad before I need it again...

Mebbe the place you bought them from fed them on bloodworm. My fish
sometimes do alarming poops like that after they get live bloodworm or
the Delica gel stuff.
