When you figure the size of your fish, do you include their tail and just
measure the body?

I'm going to get a larger tank for my two guys and need to figure what size to
get.

TIA,
Stephanie

SL = standard length, does not include the tail.

body only, and get 10 gallons per GF unless they are over 5 inches and very round,
then 15 gallons per fish. Ingrid

Gee, I could have sworn I've seen statements to the contrary,
in particular at the GoldfishConnection's auctions. I can't
find that statement right now, so I've emailed Rick Hess to
ask his opinion on the topic.

That's easy enough. I'll just get a 20 gallon tank and be done with it! Put
tetras in the smaller tank...

A reply from Mr. Hess:

So there ya have it, an unqualified "it depends." :-)
If you're a seller, it's with tail, to sound bigger.
If you're a buyer, you'd like it to be body-only, I guess.

It is ALWAYS the body of the fish only. to add the fins as size is to give a false
impression of how big. Ingrid

Jo Ann made it clear to me she never measured fins when selling, and she bought by
body size only. so it is only some sellers who include fins. Ingrid
