View Full Version : My goldfish is lopsided?
Twinkles
November 17th 03, 09:32 AM
Hi,
I noticed that my goldfish is a bit lopsided, like it bends to the left
a bit, and one of it's fins doesn't move as much as the other.
Does anyone know whats wrong?
Also I'm feeding flakes, but should I feed other food if its going a bit
lopsided like that?

Twinkles - this may be normal but, feed other foods like
shelled peas (I cook mine in microwave and then cool them),
seaweed etc.
Flakes and pellets should be soaked in tank water to make them sink.
Air in food is not good for goldies as it upsets their swim bladder.

a fin not working well sounds like heart attack or stroke. try fasting the fish for
2 days and see if anything improves. water changes of course and add 1 teaspoon salt
per 5 gallons, no additives, dissolve first, add slowly. Ingrid

Dear Ingrid,
Should I try salts or epsom salts?
It looks like he's a bit constipated, looking at his poop. He hasn't
had a long trail of poop for ages.
And through his belly it looks a bit black or dark.
I've just been feeding tiny amounts of peas, he's had about two today.
So should I fast him?

And thanks for the advice everybody!

long trails of poops is NOT GOOD. sure, try a grain of epsom salts in a pea. but
change water, add 1 teaspoon table salt per 5 gallons, no additives, dissolve first,
add slowly. keeping changing water and see how he does. Ingrid

Ah that's good. Actually I think it's never had a long trail of poop, i
meant long compared to now because he hadn't pooped much. But I gave it
a little grain of epsom salt with a pea, and he got out a lot of poop
today, and is swimming better, and more active, so I think it worked :)
But im a bit worried because some of the poop is tinged with blood?? (I
tried to open the reply on this group about red poop but i can't open it).
What does this mean?
and is it okay to feed my fish now?

good poop is poop you dont see because it falls apart the minute it exits. when you
are seeing chunks, it is from overfeeding. most people overfeed their fish with poor
quality food or food they cannot digest, like land based veggies. Ingrid
