How do I tell the difference between a Comet, and a Common goldfish?
Any key characteristic that gives it away?

i always thought they were one in the same, long slender bodied goldfish
commonly sold as feeder fish. a couple big ones in the indoor pond at the
lfs i work at, about a ft long each.

Comits tail is longer. I thought it was nicked named comit cause it looks
like a comit flying in space. A common has a short <strong tail> and seems
abit thicker as the comit seems slender length wise.

Kodiak,

The Comet is actually an American Variety of Goldfish. The tail of a real
Comet Goldfish is at least 3/4 the length of the body of the fish at a
minimum up to 1 1/2 times the body length of the fish. Back in the 1930's
when Goldfish were at their height in the U.S. there were Comets out there
that had tails 2 times the fish's body length.

Comet sounds more exotic sounding than Common Goldfish so sellers have
dubbed all Goldfish as Comets, but this is incorrect.
