Do all Red Oranda's eventually grow a full cap on their heads?
Are there some that never do?

How long does it take before it starts to appear?

Well, not really. Lots of fish sold as Orandas don't
get a wen (head growth or cap) at all. I don't know if that
means they're really Orandas or not. For sure such a fish will
never win a ribbon. :-)

As to when the wen (tee hee), I think it should be evident at
2 or 3 months old, but like all rules in the goldfish world,
I'm sure there are as many exceptions as not. Lots of fish
probably develop much later.

I've got a little panda oranda (well, a white oranda with black on his fins and
his wen, but orange cheeks, not sure if he's still considered a panda oranda or
not) and he's maybe 1.5 inches total, including fins, and has a nicely
developed wen already.
