I'm guessing it would be all right, but I figured I'd ask first:

Are solid glass not-specifically-made-for-acquarium decorations OK to put in my
tank?
(cleaned first, of course)

My answer would be "yes, but I wouldn't do it". You want to avoid things
with sharp edges that a fish can hurt itself on. Things that are porous or
have a lot of nooks and crannies can accumulate algae or bio-waste and be
hard to clean. But that can be said about anything you put in the tank not
just glass objects.

The thing to watch out for is that most glass products aren't tempered or
hardened in some way to avoid chipping. Personally I have chipped many
drinking glasses when putting them back into the cupboard because the
glasses tend to knock into each other as I rearrange things. I am being
careful, its just that kind of glass is inherently fragile and given enough
time, enough "knocking into", something is going to chip. If you are like
me and move your decorations around when cleaning the gravel this would
increase the chance of the glass object chipping when knocked against the
gravel or other decorations. If that happens you should remove the object
from the tank to avoid the fish hurting themselves on the chipped edges.

yes, and GF have a way of "redecorating"... but if the glass is heavy and they cant
move it, well why not. Ingrid
