What can I do.. my 3 year old love this fish. It is on a 75 Gallon
tank with Ehiem filter. All the other Fancy goldfish seems to be doing
ok except for some fin rot on another one. He seems so lifeless and
stays at the top. I tried a few treatment [some bacterial capsules
[green box - turning the whole tank green now] and it helps now a
little] Did a water change 2x before medication and remove the carbon
after removing it before. I feel that he might not make it, should I
just take him out completely ? I have also added salt to the tank
based on instruction from the Aquarium owners and several others on
other forums. Anything else I can do. I saw a MetaFix... is that a
better solution ? Pls help as my 3 year is sad and do not know what to
tell her. As she enjoys sitting on top of the chair feeding him. What
happened actually as I kept the tank well cleaned, temperature about
right, etc.

What is your water changing schedule and nitrate reading?
Sounds like poor water quality.

By all means stop putting medications in until you know what you are dealing
with.

It sounds very much like a water quality issue. How long has the tank been
set up, how many fish are in it, what filtration do you have and what is
your maintenance schedule. Have you added or removed anything from the tank?
Also have you tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates? If you haven't then
you need to do this a.s.a.p. You can buy the kits yourself (not too
expensive and a good investment) or you can take a sample of your water to
your lfs who should test it for you. Take a pen and paper if you do this and
write the exact results down as the advice given in most stores isn't always
correct. Post the results here and we will try to help. If it does stem from
poor water quality there is little point in adding medications until the
water quality is perfect as any good they do will be reversed by the bad
water.

EMERGENCY
1. check the water parameters: pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates
2. do the fish physical
3. change some or all of the water, add 1 teaspoon salt per 5 gallons water
4. from the water parameters and physical decide on a course of action
5. if there is nothing specific, do the tub to tub method
... and for God's sake dont throw medication in the water unless you know what is
wrong. toss the carbon, it is useless. do some big water changes.
