Blind Goldfish?

Can a goldfish go blind? Well, ok .. I guess obviously it can, but what
could cause this to happen?

i've got a bubble-eye type goldfish (not as puffy as some, but basically a
white goldfish with bubbled eyes) .. hes always bit a bit on the ... well ..
stupid side .. but the last day or so, hes been acting as if he cant see ..
he just sits for a long time .. dorsal fin is down, and his tail (hes a
fantail) is looking a little odd .. when he does swim, he swims wildly .. as
if he cant see .. fast and all over the place, and swims into both tank
walls and the plastic rock in there .. He seems to get more and more paniced
the more he swims, then gives up and sits for a while .. then repeats this
every now and then .. every time he drifts into something he freaks out and
swims wildly again, which makes him worse ..

Is there a cure for this type of thing? One of his eyes looks like its got
something in it .. like, inside the eye..

Given his swimming patterns, hes not eating well either .. just can't find
the food ..

Anyone have any ideas?

Goldfish can develop sight problems, yes, especially those with telescope or
bubble eyes. However, I don't think the blindness is causing your problems -
it sounds more like poor water quality to me. Have you tested recently for
ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? If not then you really need to a.s.a.p. Buy
the kits yourself or get your pet/fish shop to test it for you but take a
pen and write the results down so you can post them here. Most advice given
by these places is utter rubbish unfortunately. Until you get your water
tested start daily 30% water changes using temperature matched and
dechlorinated water as this will dilute any toxins in the water and make the
fish a bit happier for now.

I have one of those telescope-eyed goldfish that lost an eye.
In case he looses somehow the second one, is there a chance he
could survive ?

There's no reason he wouldn't survive with no eyes, as long as disease
doesn't set into the wound. You'd need to keep the water spotless and he'd
soon learn to get around.

This isn't blindness, it's toxic water. You need to do an emergency
water change pronto. But seeing how it's already a day later as
I write this, it's probably too late.

EMERGENCY
1. check the water parameters: pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates
2. do the fish physical
3. change some or all of the water, add 1 teaspoon salt per 5 gallons water
4. from the water parameters and physical decide on a course of action
5. if there is nothing specific, do the tub to tub method
