Whats the general strategy for goldfish bullying others?
I've got 2 goldfish .. one a white fantail, the other an orange fantail.
The orange fish is new to the tank (also has 4 zebra danios), and is about
half the size of the white one .. The white one has always been a pretty
docile fish .. actually quite dumb at times .. the new goldfish appears to
be attacking it .. swimmings right into him, and appears to bite him .. then
swim off .. and does it quite a lot ..
Obviously training fish is kind of out of the question, but why doesnt the
bigger fish fight back? he just freaks out and swims away for a second ..
then often enough the new gold one will repeat it .. I hoped the white one
might fight back a few times and theyd grow out of it .. but he just puts up
with it .. he now has marks all over his tail and scales on both sides .. so
I've seperated them .. the white one is temporaily in a hospital tank .. Is
there any way to help these 2 fish to co-habitate?
Its odd .. my fears were more that the larger fish would be agressive, if
anything .. (the white one has shared a tank with a goldfish before quite
happily)

Ingrid has suggested in the past putting a chopstick in the tank and chasing the
"naughty" fish when he is mis-behaving. He may learn that his actions are the
cause
of the chopstick and calm down.

also, I would move the "naughty" fish, rather than the docile. Your docile fish
has been stressed enough. The naughty fish should be moved!
I have this orange oranda is such an #$@ that it killed one pleco and
injured another goldfish that is almosted doubled in size. Now I have to
separate them and the bully is alone in the 29G tank.

I had a 9" Common in a tank with a 3" Comet.
The 3" was introduced into the tank with the 9".
The 3" harrassed and chased the 9" for about 3 weeks.
Then the 9" figured out he was tougher, and the tables
turned. Then I had issues with the 9" hurting the 3"
Ultimately I had to seperate them.

I got a red cap oranda which is the same saize as my orange bully today. I
put in the red cap and they beat each other up for about 20 minute. Now both
of them are minding their own bussiness, which is digging gravel for food.
