Black Discoloration? by
E Riehle
I'm new to this group AND to maintaining an aquarium, so pardon my
intense ignorance.
I have a small five gallon tank with two fish, one a fantail goldfish,
about 1". We had a pH spike a few weeks after setting up the tank, and
before I was educated about toxins in the water by the local...

Juwel stuff by
2pods
Hi
I've just bought a Juwel Rio 400, and am a bit confused over what I still
need to buy.
eg Structured Background STR600: do I need three of these, or are there more
than one in a pack ?
Reflectors: will I need these for coldwater fish and live plants ? If so,
do the clips come as well ? Are...

Donegal Paul
Ok, am i dong this right, i have one of those algarde gravel vacs basically
a 5 or 6 cm wide tube with siphon tubing attached.
Thing is i just did it, (first time) and although it was certainly sucking
up some of the waste, the flow was quite quick and i think i must have
nearly done a 35% water...

buffering ph by adding minerals by
chris nuttall
i know you can add various things to your water to buffer the ph
towards a certain value, that value being different depending exactly
which mineral(s) you add, but does anyone know what will buffer to a
ph of 7?
Sodium bicarb buffers to around 8 i think
coral to around 8.2 ish
limestone...not...

Pond items at Wallyworld by
Mark Cooper
FYI, Wal-mart has their pond stuff on clearance. I picked up a bunch of the
sponge filters meant for pond pumps for $1 each. These are the ones that go
over the intake like a sleeve and are made of coarse sponge. I have a bunch
of them standing on end in my newly assembled home made wet/dry....

Plastic plants that killed my guppies! by
Peter Wilson
Hi all,
I am a newbie fish and aquarium owner and I think my plastic plants are
killing my beloved guppies... or at least contributed to it.
Here's my sequence of events.
1) New tank setup. 21L tropical temp., small filter box. Crushed quartz rock
bottom.
2) Let tank sit for a week, filter and...

follow up: female betta with female dwarf gourami in community tank by
Danya
Hi everyone
Well, the LFS never did order the female bettas from me, so i ended up
getting one at Meijer's (a food/clothing/everything store). i added 1
fake plant and let it float at the surface incase they didn't get a
long, so there would be more hiding areas. anyway, as far as i've
observed,...

Molly with black dots - pic attached - spotted_fish.jpg (0/1) by
Elizabeth Armstrong
I couldn't view your picture, but I wonder if yours is a silver molly?
Once a long time ago my mom got a silver molly that developed black dots.
We were really worried about it and felt pretty stupid when it turned out to
be a dalmatian molly.

Blanket Weed by
vespula
We have a fairly new pond of about 8 weeks, the pool stays very clear
as we have an ultra voilet light, and an air machine and pump. But we
seem to have picked up blanket weed we don't know if it came on a
plant we bought or if this is a common problem with ponds, any advise
on getting rid of it...

Inexplicable, repeated pH crashes! by
Jason in Oakland
I have a 12g NanoCube, with live plants, a very well-functioning
biological filter (no ammonia or nitrites at all, except a tiny spike
when I change water because of the broken-down chloramine--that fades
to 0 in a few hours). I have 5 lively Golden Barbs, and used to have 2
otos, but they...

What are peoples experience with Weipro Filters by
Brett Doran
Hi all,
Got a nice little 2 foot tank set up with bristlenoses and a seperate
guppy fry containment net.
Was running a small fluval 1 internal power filter but it seems to
clog up about every third day. With the smallest amount of slime
blocking it off.
So today i bought a brand new Weipro TC-800...

Unusual cycling! by
Ross Vandegrift
Hello everyone,
Been offline for a while, hope everyone's ok!
Moved into a new apartment recently and got a new tank to go
with it! It's an Oceanic 40G Stretch Hex. Goregeous. I've got lots of
plants, 110W of CF lighting, DIY CO2 and have started cycling it with
six zebra danios.
I added the...

I've had just a little experience with buying fish lately, but I've got a
lot retail experience, and from both sides of the checkout counter I might
add. Dances with Ferrets and some others were answering my question
regarding the obligation of the retailer to "stand behind their fish", be...

Columbian Shark - less active by
Don
I have 3 columbian sharks which are 3-4". When I first got them they
swam constantly all over the tank and went nuts at feeding time. The
last few weeks they started staying in a small area in the corner of
the tank and only eat food after its been laying on the bottom for
awhile and happens to...
