Chronic Fin Rot - Betta by
Todd K.
This pattern has been going on a while.
I change the bettas water (about 1 gal of his 1.5 gal tank every week) and
a couple of days later he suddenly gets fin rot overnight. I treat with 1
tsp salt to the 1.5 gal and a couple of days later he's fine again. For a
couple of week or so I left him...

New 55G, filtration questions... by
Keith Hatfull
Hi,
I have a new (used) 55G that I am setting up. After reading and reading
I have decided that the best filtration for me would be a combination of
an RUGF and a power or canister filter. A couple of questions:
- Is driving a RUGF with the output from a canister filter a reasonable
thing to...

Noisy Fluval 404 by
Dave Smith
After about a year of perfect service, my Fluval 404 has started
making a rattling kind of noise. I'm sure it's the impeller, but I've
taken it apart and put it back together a couple times and can't
readily see the slop. Is there a part that I can replace? Something
I can tighten?
Thanks very...

Do I kill the betta by
miufg
I have a female betta extremely bloated (not dropsy - no coned scales) she's
been like this for a while but in the past few months, she has become so
bloated that she is now lying upside down on the gravel.
The oddity is, past her bloated abdomen her body color is extremely vibrant,
her fins are...

3 Male Fancy Guppies in Q-Tank, Chasing, Aggression or Both? by
Lady Samsara
I recently got 3 male fancy guppies for my 10 gallon tank. My friend
has male guppies with no problem, the LFS said males together were
okay and I did lots of research and saw nothing noted about male
aggression. I didn't want pairs as I have no room for babies if they
survive. They have been in...

HELP massive fish die-off by
Bill K
I had the unfortunate incident of a massive fish die-off in my tank
this weekend.
I'm after 4 things...
1) What happened?
2) Did I do the correct measures, immediately and subsequently?
3) Where do I go from here?
4) Let others know, so the same mistakes are not made

Pregnant Livebearers Question by
Marlene Walters
I have a pregnant guppy, a pregnant swordtail, and a pregnant sunburst
platy. Oh, and a pregnant Mickey Mouse platy as well. Does anyone know
where I can find pictures, or info on exactly how they behave when ready
to give birth? The swordtail has had five babies, I think it's her
babies. I am...

tank mate for gar? by
hugh jass
I have what I believe is a Florida gar in a 55 gallon tank. I've had
this fish for about 22 years and he (she?) has been alone for probably
the last 10. The fish is about 16" long now. I was wondering what kind
of fish would be compatible with this gar and would it even be a wise
idea to try and...

New aquarium by
Russ
We just started our 20 gallon long freshwater aquarium. We filled it
with distilled water a week ago, and put 3 zebra danios in it to help
start the cycle.
We know nothing about fish.
We just tested the pH and it is 6.4. Seems low to me, but not
dangerously. Is 6.4 OK, and if not, how do we...

Fish Combinations... by
Matt Gibson
Hi All. Beginner's question time.
Does anyone envisage problems with keeping Corys, Neon Tetras and Balloon
Mollies in the same tank, long term?
Behaviourally, they seem to be getting along just fine with each other right
now; I'm more worried about the kind of water I should be using. ...

Filtration Question by
Renfeild12
Is 500 gallons per hour enough turnover from the wet/dry (and lifeguard
cannister both fed from one overflow box) for a 120 gallon fish tank? Because
my overflow box is leaking and i have no idea what size it is, or what size to
buy..

Goldfish with sand by
SkyCatcher
Hi,
I know goldfish root around in the substrate & take gravel in their mouths
and then spit it out - I was wondering if anyone has any experience of using
sand as a substrate with goldfish. Is it always in suspension? Is it bad for
them?
Any input welcome!

peat plates by
Chris Palma
Hi.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with "peat plates". Big
Al's has them, and they seem like they would be good for my aquarium -- my
water is pretty hard (I soften it by mixing with RO, but it is still
pretty hard) and I'm also thinking of giving them a try because they...
