What type of fluorescent tubes for planted tank? by
Shorty
I have a triple T8 strip light. It came with full spectrum 8000K tubes.
I'm wondering whether I should replace some of them by other types for
a planted tank.
How about leaving one in, adding one 6500K and one 5000K?
Also, I know that a lot of power compacts come with moon lights (LEDs).
Is there...

Ammonia test kits, how long does it take? by
A Man
I got an ammonia test kit using drops and it takes 20 minutes to get results.
Do all ammonia drop tests take this long? Are there shorter ones?
I think mine is Hagen brand. It was a Canadian company.
Thanks.

Veiltail Angel fin growth by
2pods
I've just noticed on my three gold veiltail angels what looks like small
round growths towards the end of the filaments.
The ray of the fin comes most of the way to the end, then this little
ball-like thing then continues to the end.
There are no spots or marks on their bodies and they are...

Vacation and Water change by
fish lover
I'm scheduled for a 5 weeks vacation in May. I wonder what are the
water change options I have for my discus. Having someone over to
change water for me is not an option. There are so many things can go
wrong and I just don't see it happen.
That said, I'm thinking of two possible options:

A general thanks to the group. by
JeffinMississippi
Its been 3 months now and the tank is doing great. Every single thing I have
learned about keeping fish I learned from the people in this group. My
initial startup "Put water in tank, put fish in water, watch fish die, buy
more fish" obviously wasnt the correct way to go about business. All...

fishless cycling - pH problem? by
muddyfox
Hi,
I'm new to this newsgroup, so please redirect me if this question is in
the wrong place.
I'm trying to cycle my new aquarium using Ammonia. Things seem to be
on track except that the pH is climbing to very high levels (pH 8.4
today) and I'm concerned that the bacteria I need for my nitrogen...

Am i doing it right? by
Christopher Lewis
My girlfriend bought me a 100 litre tank for my birthday a few weeks ago. I
filled it with gravel a few fake plants and water and left the filter and
heater running for a few days.
I then went to my local fish shop and bought some small fish recommended by
them to cycle the tank.
All OK so far...

More power to you papa red and sean! by
Daniel Morrow
I am looking forward to hearing more about how papa red's tanks turn out and
how sean's piranhas do in their huge tank. I only have 2 silver dollars but
if I correctly read my older book they are relatively closely related to
piranhas but are herbivorous, and seem to share the same skittishness...

tiger barb with bizarre problems... by
Jason
Hi,
I have a lone tiger barb that has two afflictions (don't know if
they're related):
* its anal area is incredibly swollen, and a bit of its internal tissue
is protruding out. It was white for a few days, and now it's darker
pink.
* it spits out these cottony bunches of "phlegm" that are white

How to clear up greenish water in fishtank by
[email protected]
I am currently housesitting for someone who has a 50 gallon fishtank.
Just before they left they said they changed part of the fishtank water
as well as cleaned the fishtank. At this time the tank turned a strong
green color where you can barely see the fish. As well, this is a tank
with that has...
