Notice fish behavior changing after dark by
JeffinMississippi
I was just sitting here and turned out the lights in the tank with only
minimal light from another room but still enough to see the fish. I notice
the following:
1. The tetras really get close. When the light is on, they school but not
often, they are all over the tank.
2. The Loaches shoot up to...

How to fill a big tank by
Suzie-Q
I'm wondering how you all go about filling a large, new aquarium. Do you
use some sort of treated tap water, or do you buy bottled water, or what?
Forgive my ignorance. I'm new at this. (And I'm thinking of getting a
29 gallon tank.)

Is gravel necessary for plants?? by
ko57
Here's what I did:
I was concerned about my betta's fins, thinking he had fin-rot. His
fins were tearing a bit, and when the dorsal fin started with a small
pin hole, then a few days later that elongated (about 1/4 inch) and
then one morning it tore off leaving a long strip at the rear. ...

Fat Bellied Platy by
Celtic Wanderer
Question, in the last week or so my Mickey Mouse platy's belly has
grown/swelled to twice the normal size. Is it possible she is pregnant?
Now this may sound weird because she is the only platy in the tank, however
she and one of my guppies have been inseparable ever since I introduced the
guppies...

Tank Mate for a Crayfish by
Celtic Wanderer
For Christmas I bought my 3 year old a 3.5 gallon tank and a crayfish and
boy does he LOVE it. He gets so excited when he wakes up from his nap and
it's time to feed Jack the crayfish. Jack also happens to be my son's name.
He is not very orginal when naming things.
Now he wants to add some...

Do I need an air stone? by
Sam Croy
Hello,
New here, been lurking for about a month. Great resource this is. Now I
have a question.
I have a 10 gal. with six Serpae Tetras and three Green Cories. It is
just a cheap outfit I picked up at Wal-Mart with a 10/15 Whisper filter.
I have no live plants, the aquarium seems to be doing well...

Very lethargic Molly by
David C. Stone
I have a very lethargic Molly, which is spending virtually all
its time sitting on the bottom. No sign of spots, redness,
bulging eyes, and it does it if food is available (I just isolated
it to the quarantine tank.)
Any ideas?
Any good sites on identifying and treating fish diseases?
Thanks...

How long until my sick Betta is better? by
Suzie-Q
I'm fairly certain that my male Betta has "fungus." At least
he looks very much like the picture on the box of "medicine"
that I got to treat him. He has the white fuzzy-looking stuff
on his "chin" and his fins have split into strips instead of
a solid, single fin. He hasn't been eating, and he...

Hi all,
I have a yellow cichlid which was labelled as ps. acci yellow.
I googled. I presume they meant acei but I can't find any yellow

than I'd expect.
Help welcome! I have a photo and a video of my juveniles:

Maturing a tank quickly... by
Mariachi
After making my friends suffer much fish talk and fish gazing two of
them are going to get aquariums of their own. I was wondering what
would be the fastest way for them to mature their tanks? I was thinking
of giving or lending them a cup full of gravel..and maybe the ceramic
turtle thats in my...

sorry another question by
miket6065
I mentioned in an earlier post that I have a 100 gallon tank. For filtering
I have to powerheads, one reverse flow, and two filters an Emperor 400 and a
smaller single bio-wheel Emperor. Question, would a freshwater tank get any
filtering benefit from a protein skimmer??
I was under the...

Auto-leveling aquariums.... by
Daniel Morrow
I have a simple and somewhat well known to every seasoned aquarist method
(sorry - I don't mean to say I invent all of this stuff - this particular
method I originally saw in an issue of tfh) of keeping an aquarium's water
level up and stable over a period of weeks) You need to have a big (5...

I have changed my tune about vortex diatomaceous filters yet again! by
Daniel Morrow
I was able to use my vortex today without incidents because I used 2 fluval
hose elbows to hold the in/out tubing in the tank. No spills at all! I am
very happy with my vortex and totally take back the negative words I have
said about them in the past! There are amazingly good accessories out...

fish compatability question by
miket6065
I have a 100 gallon tank which I am getting serious about again. The tank
is in great shape and has around 15 fish in it right now. All good
community fish no aggressive types.
But I have been thinking about varying the kinds of critters in it. I found
some shrimp at a local store and at a...

Best way to clean my molly tank of snails? by
Salvelinus
I have a 30 gallon hex tank that is running nicely (healthy plants,
good water quality), that has 5 adult mollies and 7 four week-old
babies in it.
The tank is being totally over-run by trumpet snails. Two months ago I
noticed a single large snail, and now there are hundreds if not
thousands of...

Do Dwarf Gouramis eat snails? by
Gill Passman
I was watching my male Dwarf Gourami in the 15 gall kitchen tank this
morning. The tank is suffering from a snail infestation at the moment.
He was picking the snails off of the glass, holding them for a few
seconds in his mouth and then throwing them down onto the substrate.
So I'm wondering if...
