Just how much color CAN a Buttikoferi develop? by
Polarhound
For some time, Marty (4" buttikoferi) has shown an almost neon blue in
the adipose area and along the very edge of the ventral vin when he is
excited. (My mantra, a blue fishy is a HAPPY fishy! :) )
Recently the color has expanded. The blue on the ventral fin now
extends about 20% of the width...

Oscar with dropsy II by
perrin
Just wanna leave a note to say my Oscar has apparently recovered after about
6 weeks, belly gone back almost to normal. Not sure if it's the medication
or just the plain old hardiness of the species. Anyway, glad to have it back
in shape.

Oscars Spawning by
Trevor
I recently posted an article with the subject Spawning Demspeys. Well this
morning when I went to check on the Depseys I notice the pair of Oscars
have spawned as well - on the other side of the tank.
I did not notice the eggs yesterday when I did a gravel vac (I might have
missed them) so I...

Red Top Cobalt question by
Mark Cooper
I was reading online about red top cobalts. Some sources refer
to them as pseudotropheus, and others call them maylandia. Are
they still considered to be from the pseudotropheus family?
Also, when a species is designated BB, what does that refer to?
Thanks,
Mark

Spawning Dempseys by
Trevor
My Demseys have spawned again after losing all their fry (they never made
it to free swimmimg) about two weeks ago.
My attempt at a divider was useless as the fish were able to push past it.
The Depseys did their best but overall conditions conspired against them
and all the fry were eventually...

Stranger in town! by
Mark Cooper
I was looking at the Malawis in my 75 gallon and saw a fish I
didn't recognize. It took me a moment, and then I realized it
was the male red top cobalt who apparently matured overnight,
because he was showing outstanding color. I didn't even know it
was the same fish. Cool!!
FWIW,
Mark

Oscar with dropsy by
perrin
Hi all. My oscar has had dropsy for a month now. It looks bloated like a
fancy goldfish. I have treated it with anti-bacterial medication and it is
still eating and looking ok. How will it fare in the end?
TIA.

To anyone interested in cichlid chit chat.
I've installed a chatroom on my site. It uses the same login as the forum on
my site and hopefully will allow for quick answers when catastrophe hits.

Oscars & fire eels? by
Cookie
I have always wanted a fire eel. Now, at PetsMart, they have 6 SMALL
(2-4 inch) fire eels there. Problem is, my one oscar is 7 inches, my
other is 4, my JD is 4, and my needlenose gar is 6 inches. This may
seem like a no brainer question, but will the eel get eaten? Since
they have spiny backs,...
