Cycling help, appreciated! by Cshenk
Hi all! Wth several replies I'll do a group 'thanks' for all of you. BioSpira it is. I would not have remembered the name of brands very well. I got my first fish (goldfish) when I was 12. It was still alive when I was 27 (gifted to a friend when I was 23 and joined the Navy 24 years ago)....

cloudy water !!! ??? by Navy Diver
I have a 65 gal tank with Ehiem Pro filter. The water was crystal clear until I had to move the aquarium to a new house. Each month I would replace the very top filter and charcoal pad. Each week I vacuum the gravel and remove nearly one third the water and replace. Everything was fine for 3-4...

Goldfish growth by David L. Burkhead
My wife swears up and down that our goldfish Mika-chan (currently about 2 1/2" long) and Hoshi (currently about 4 1/2" long) have grown noticeably since we got them (Aug 19 for Mika-chan, Sep 1 for Hoshi). I don't see it myself. Is it reasonable to expect Goldfisn in that size range to...

Missing scales by David L. Burkhead
Hoshi is missing a couple of scales. This isn't anything new, its just that I've generally had other stuff to worry about so I haven't brought it up before. Question is, do lost scales (due to injury or whatever) grow back or will that always be a "gap" in his armor? -- David L. Burkhead ...

My fishie first aid/treatment kit by David L. Burkhead
What I've got: - Morton "Solar Salt" -Antibiotic ointment. - Two 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs extra airstone & extra air pump. The tubs have a scratched line at the 10 gal level which is to where I generally fill when using them (makes it easy to control medication/salt dosages)

lettuce ? by Zebulon Whateley
I read ( a while ago ) on a goldfish keeper's website, that finely chopped lettuce is a good alternative to the regular *flake* type food. I tried it tonight & every tiny piece of lettuce was consumed within seconds ! Any advice about sensible goldfish feeding would be GREATLY appreciated !!!

My Goldfish Died! by Steve W
But why? The fish was a fairly standard goldfish with a nice comet type tail. It was about two years old and shared an 18x12x12 tank with 5 Whitecloud. I've been feeding with Tetrafin. The goldfish "jerome" has never exhibited any disease symptoms, no whitespot, no finrot, no slime...

"holiday food" by Zebulon Whateley
The packs that I've seen on sale come in different sizes & look like small, white bricks .... although some are circular / coin shaped. It seems that the sizes depend upon how long you are away from the tank, unable to feed the fish. When you live far from family & friends .... & cannot rely...

Nitrite issues by David L. Burkhead
My tank has been cycling for some time now and it looks like I'm finally in the home stretch--ammonia down to zero, Nitrite having recently dropped from 2 ppm to 0.5 ppm--but things seem to be stalled there. It's been 12 days since ammonia dropped to zero and five since nitrite dropped from 2 to...
