Water Lilly Leaves by Lawrence
Hi All, Winter is fast-approaching here and I was wondering if I should cut off the old water lily leaves and remove them from the pond or should I just let the water lilies do their own thing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! -- Lawrence

Calculating Water Volume by itten
I got a formula for calculating the water volume of my pond for the purpose treating it.. The formula stated length x width x 7.5 = volume.. Why doesn't the depth of the pond make a difference? The depth is not part of the formula.

Railroad Ties by itten
I built my water garden with raiload ties stacked 3 high with a liner. I was wondering if the creosote in the ties would leech into the pond when it rained. I built one of these a few years ago and had some problems with my koi dying. I don't know if it was a result of the ties or not. When...

Cloudy Water by itten
I just set up my water graden and at the advice of the supplier, I added 3 50 lb bags of builders sand to the water. She told me to rinse it because it has silt in it, but I didn't take her advice. The water is cloudy. Will this clear up in time, if not, is there an additive that will remove...

Is it too late to introduce koi to a pond by Rob G
Earlier this summer our well established pond was poisoned with detergent - all very amusing for the perpetrator as the foam was massive and we got complaints from the neighbours about it. I've left it 4 months after a full clean out and refill, and am wondering whether I could restock now or...

Bullfrogs by Jeanne
I imported a dozen big bullfrog tadpoles from a company. They all looked fine -- second year tadpoles. Some had hind legs starting. #12 died. As an experiment, I let #11 out of his protection screen box to see the koi reaction. They looked him over but didn't pay much attention thereafter. So,...

How to identify fry by Sam Megarry
I have a 1400 gallon pond with a few mature KOI, 2 comets, 2 shebunkins and a goldfish. I've now got hundreds of fry, literally! Some are olive/grey, I assume goldfish, some are like mini KOI, I assume these are comets. How can you tell? How would you know if you had KOI fry?

snakes and frogs by Michelle Bailey
I knew our water garden had frogs and a lot of tadpoles. Yesterday saw a snake. I realize that the frogs are a food source for the snakes. So, we're draining, killing snakes, cleaning and refilling. But how do we not repeat the pattern? Is there a way to repel frogs and snakes but not...

Greetings from Norfolk (UK) We recently moved into a bungalow which has a pair of ponds connected by a short stream - water is re-circulated by the fountain pump. The stream and 'upper'(about 2 ft above the lower) pond is located under some low growing conifers. It has been suggested that this...
