Formal pond construction from a newbie by
[email protected]
I'd like to build a 12' x 8' formal rectangular pond on my patio that
would contain a few goldfish and some water plants and I'd like to do
it out of concrete. Our local codes clasify ponds as swimming pools and
as such any pond or pool deeper than 24" is subject to having a fence
put around it....

Green Pond but no green water!! by

Hi, i have just started off a new pond and although the water is
crystal clear there is a green film over everything else thats in the
pond, the lights, the liner, the pumps, everything. The pond has only

Blanket weed by
sue ring
Thank you for all the ideas on the posting. I tried the small gold fish and
it seems to be working. For a week now the weed has been down to almost
nothing and my grandchildren love looking at the "little ones"

Hole in Water Pipe by
pixi
Yesterday while digging next to my pond in order to put in a plant I
accidentally put a hole in the top of the plastic water pipe going from the
skimmer to the top of the waterfall. Water bubbled out. The waterfall
still works fine but I expect that I am losing water and water here is...

Maintaining a water level by
R L Tosswill
The recent spell of summery weather in the UK has caused us to wonder how necessary it is to replace
water lost by evaporation in our newly-created garden pond. Our small pond has a surface area of
about 6.5sq.m and a maximum depth of about 80cm. No fish, usual plants, currently quite healthy.
What...

Run-off Water Feed by
Naomi
In the UK ( South East) we have a drought situation. It occurred to me that
a minimum of pipework would be required in order to direct the rainwater
downpipe from next door's garage roof, which currently drains harmlessly
into my garden, such that it would drain into my 13 x 10 foot...

Green Algee by

I have a big pond, in cement... the green algee it's a big problem. Just
don't know what else I can do to get rid of it!
I have a good filter with UV, but not enough. I have planted it and all,

wouldn't get so much sun... it...

Garden Waterfall / Hydroelectric Micro-Generator Idea by
[email protected]
Yep, that's a perpetual motion machine and humans have been trying to
make one of those for a few thousand years. It's too bad it won't work
because we would no longer need fossil fuels, we would all have
waterfalls in our front yard with a generator hooked up to it. What
you're talking about has...

My fish looks sick -advice please by
J F Garner
Hi guys,
One of my fish looks sick and I wondered if anyone could give me a clue as
to what is wrong with it please.
It is a 2 year old Shubunkin and it seems perfectly normal (it is eating and
swimming just fine) but it has what looks like a large sugarcube size square
of fur growing on one of...

Garden Waterfall / Hydroelectric Micro-Generator Idea by
Naomi
If I understand you correctly, you are trying to invent a perpetual motion
machine.
Not a chance. You cannot get out more than you put in.
Best you could do is to drive the lights and maybe a lower power pump with
your turbine.
It will probably pay for itself in a couple of hundred years.

Pond vacuum? by
Rick
I have a relatively small pond (about 12 x 6 ft) and would like to purchase
a pond vacuum to get some of the silt, etc. off the bottom. The pond is
lined with river bed stone on the bottom so it can't be too powerful and/or
must be able to block the stone from being sucked up in the vacuum. ...

Murky pond by
Jeanne
Wouldn't think you would need to change the water unless it tests really
bad. I haven't changed mine in thirty years although the pond has turned
green several times when the pump failed. A good filter will clear it up if
it is big enough. The fish won't mind muddy or algae water; they seem...
