lily q;uestion by Hal
Still here! I had a white water lily show up among my red lilies this year. At the beginning of this season I thought I had two reds, two pinks and one yellow. Where did the white come from? The reds came out of a 6" end of a 30 gal barrel that had been growing for 2 years and was full of...

what to use as filter material! by jimmy d
I have a 1000 gal. pond with 2 filters. One is a bio filter and works great. I use furnace material and such in the other to keep the water clear. Is there any thing else I could use instead of furnace mat. in my filter, it seems to clog up very fast and I don't know how good it is. Thanks JIM

With the hysteria over West Nile virus, localities are spraying to kill mosquitos. How does this spraying affect ponds, if at all? Alan -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Please use address ) to reply via e-mail. ****

Wal*Mart waterlilies by Köi-Lö
The inexpensive waterlilies from Wal*Mart continue to bloom into the intense heat and humidity of summer. They always have between 2 and 4 flowers each. These were definitely a good buy when you consider the price at places like Lowe's, the Internet and Pond stores. :-) I've never had one...

Water at 84F in ponds by Köi-Lö
Even with shade from the lilies and other plants on the south side of the ponds the water is now 84F to 86F. One older koi developed "dropsy" and died, but probably not from the heat. Last summer the water went into the 90s. The filters need weekly cleanings even with the use of the...

pond filter noise by Cam
I have a submersible pump feeding an upflow filter. It makes an annoying noise. The pump itself is silent and the sound of the water flowing into the pond is pleasant. The problem is the sound of the water flowing out of the filter. It makes a rushing/gurgling sound. The water leaves the filter...

Fish Deaths by [email protected]
Firstly Water quality is good for Nitrate, Nitrite,PH, Ammonia etc. A few weeks ago my fish all went very shy and silly. They hid at the bottom of the pond, were very timid and when fed would flick at there food and dart away. Unfortunately the goldfish and shubunkins started dieing first....

water lillies by keith_nuttle
We have a rubber lined pond. Are there any reason that flowers escaping their pots should not be allowed to grow on the rocks and gravel in the pond?

Hi y'all I live in the south of England where right now we are experiencing a bit of a drought. As a result the water in my garden Goldfish pond is getting low. My question : Can I just top up the pond with common tap water? I've heard I should let it stand for a few hours to get rid of the...

Nymphaea suggestion for a small pond by Plantaganet
Hi, I would like to add a miniature leaved, white or soft cream flowered Nymphaea to my very small, shallow garden pond. The depth of water at the deepest section is only 18 inches. I understand that miniature water lilies have a leaf spread of about 12 to 18 sq. in., so one plant should be quite...

my fish are hovering the bottom of the deepest part of the pond. I haven't noticed any threat of a heron. What else could be causing them to act "scared"?
