Laguna Powerjet (foam free) update by
Bill Stock
I bought the Laguna Powerjet Foam free fountain/pump this year. It's
basically a pump inside a plant basket, although I suspect a plant basket
would have more filter area. It's been running in the pond about three weeks
now, with mixed results. It seems to clog daily the last little while....

Hozelock: hose to male? by
nigelmercier
Does anyone know where I can get a number of Hozelock type plastic male
push-fit to compression hose connectors?
I want a hose with a male push-fit connector on the end, without using
a male-male adaptor.
Many years ago their original system had connectors this way round,
then they changed to the...

Water Hyacinth (Part 2) by
BB
FINALLY got my hands on some WH a bit ago. Darn things are a good 18
inches across!! I ain't never seen 'em that big before...
Anyway, how long before the three I got start really sucking up the
nutrients that are currently feeding my algae? (It's only about 70-80
gallons of pond...) The algae...

Not so.Yellow Ogon by
BoyPete
Over the last 24 hours, my two Yellow Ogon have turned a darkish grey,
except their tails.
We had storms and torrential rain yesterday, and water temp had dropped 4
degrees in that time.
Could that be the problem? Will it reverse?? Other ideas??

Pump for bird bath? by
Angela Marsh
We have a small stream running next to the house and would like to put a
bird bath in our yard near it.
Would it be possible to find an *inexpensive* pump that could pump water
from the stream into the birdbath?
The only problem is that it needs to go about 30 feet, and over a 4' earth
berm. Can...

Looking for cheap or free pond fish? by
Köi-Lö
I saw a small handmade sign on a mega-store's bulletin board this past week
advertising FREE pond fish and tadpoles! As people thin out the number of
fish in their ponds they're looking to find homes for the excess. Check
these boards when shopping in stores that have them. Also, you may want...

Inexpensive pond plants by
Köi-Lö
Those on tight budgets can now find great buys on assorted pond (and garden)
plants. The stores that carry them look to unload pond plants this far into
the season. Most are not looking great in their small, often near-dry
containers or boxes. Also check out the areas of stores like Lowe's...

Gold Fish by
keith_nuttle
The gold fish laid eggs and now we have many little new gold fish. Can
anyone tell me how fast these fish grow? Can someone relate the age of
the fish to their length? ie. 1/2" 1ST week etc.
I believe the eggs were laid about the 1st of June. They are now about
1/2" long.

Koi in pond with gravel bottom by
old dirtbeard
We recently had a koi pond installed by a company using Aquascape products
(biofilter, skimmer, pond liner covered with gravel). We live in the South
Bay area of Los Angeles. We just had a new koi get sick and I did a little
sleuthing on the net and it seems that the gravel of the bottom of the...

Weed on surface of UK pond by
MikeB
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the weed is that is thriving in my pond?
The weed is green and floats freely on the surface of the pond. As far as I
can tell, the leaves are oval (around 3-4mm long and 2-3 mm wide). They have
a look which I think is reminiscent of the leaves of watercress but...

oyster shells by
Snooze
Has anyone here had much experience with using oyster shells to provide
calcium for aquatic crustaceans and to buffer pond pH? Primarily any
difficulties with general hardness because of the extra calcium? Obviously
I'll have to keep a closer eye on the pH now, and possibly deal with...

Attempt at water ditch waterfall. by
Mama Bear
We have an agricultural water ditch running right next to our house.
It's about 4' wide and 3' deep. ( the actual ditch not the water flow )
We thought it would be nice to have some falling water sound in there,
so we could hear it in our yard. So I went and bought 6 concrete blocks
at the store (...

Goldfish and Duckweed by
[email protected]
I presume there is still some expertise here in spite of the garbage so
I would like to expand on the duckweed thing.
If it were not that several people here and elsewhere have said
goldfish eat duckweed, I would have written it off as nonsense.
I bought 16 feeders yesterday and have spent a good...

Lily Pad and mud by
Peter Smith
I picked up a lily, put it in my 60 gal. pond.
I woke up this morning to find the water all milky. I did a water
change, but the water was a gray milky color again.
Today when I got home from work I took the plant out, washed all the mud
out and left only the round bark and roots.
I took pea...
