Waste of time and money on fish in a mud hole waste of money paying out the ying yang for high dollar food pay exhorborant prices for pumps and fish and setting up a pond only to allow herons and other predators to eat their $100 fish for a late night snack. Reducing mulm by Koi-Lo
Does anyone have a favorite product that actually works? I can't recall the name of the last product I used but I know it was worthless and not cheap. After the spring algae bloom there is often a mulm on the bottom of my ponds that the filter isn't catching. -- Koi-Lo.... Frugal ponding since...

Best Koi foods - where and how much? by Koi-Lo
Can anyone suggest the BEST koi foods with the least fillers? About how much can one expect to pay for these feeds and where are they to be found? I notice in my catalogs the ingredients are not listed. With 400 less koi and GF to feed I may get them a bag. What products are you using and which...

Underwater Light by Paul
I have a small pond and put in an underwater light last year(50W, Alpine). It worked great for some months and then it stopped working. I went to replace the bulb and found that water had leaked into its housing. What can cause that? Is Alpine a defective product? Thanks for any...

Pickerel problems by Altum
I can't get pickerel weed to grow. I thought it was sturdy stuff. It languished last year. I got a few stalks and a bloom but it wasn't growing fast or well. I think I had it too deep, submerged about 8". this year I moved it to about 5", and finally to where the water is at its roots. It's...

Pump Replacement Recommendation by TomW
Looking for advice on replacing my Aquascape 1500. I want to keep the flow as close as possible to the 1500, a little less would be OK. I've found pumps with a higher flow rate, but my setup is already at the limit & I don't really want to use extra power & have to add another discharge to dump...

Hello We have 2 bream in our pond. One of the bream has bloated up like a balloon and his scales are all sticking out like a pine cone. He/she also points his head down at a 45degree angle and stays in the same place for ages. His/her tail looks a bit raggy too. I was hoping someone might be able...

Aquatic Compost by David Sim
Hi What are your thoughts on planting pond plants in standard garden clay. When I dug the pond last year I had about 2ft of top soil and then straight into clay. I just fancied doing quite a lot of planting / transplating & wanted to avoid the cost of buying a lot of compost from the pond...
