Size of koi fry??? by
Richard Holub
This spring I found koi fry in my pond from the recently placed 12" koi
which I wintered indoors. After the first 3 weeks I noticed my first batch.
Five weeks after bringing the koi outside I noticed another number of small
fry along with the now larger fry. By mid summer I counted a total...

Stock Tank plumbing by
Bill Stock
I managed to find a local spot to buy Stock Tanks, so the next question is
plumbing.
I understand that the Rubbermaid tanks have a 1 1/4" drain plug, so my
options a
1) Running a 3/4" hose to the filter with the appropriate adapters. But how
to safely return the filter output to the tank?

Waterfall in winter? by
Dan
I live in zone 7 (MD) and was toying with the idea of leaving
the waterfall running all winter. My brother-in-law has done
so for the last two years with no apparent ill-effects. Whenenver
the pump shuts off, the water drains out of the lines (all run
down hill) so I'm not sure a power outage...

Listing Goldfish by
Sean Kerns
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a goldfish I hope you can help me with.
First off, it's a very small, 5'x7'x2" deep backyard pond with a liner.
I've
had it about 5 years.
The fish in it are all garden variety goldfish, ranging in size between
1.5"
up to this one, who's about 6". The pond is a...

Frog development by
[email protected]
Ahem, ribit. Anyone know much about frogs out there?
Last May I put 3 large tadpoles from the pet store into my 400 gallon
pond, here in San Francisco. They are rana pipiens, and I was told
they'd develop into frogs by August. Well, here in early November,
they look pretty much like large...

Rebuilding 'veggie filter' by
PlainBill
About 2 1/2 years ago we purchased a home with koi pond in the Phoenix
area. The pond is about 800 gallons, with a few growing fish. After
rebuilding the main filter (using a variation of the 'Skippy filter'
the water has stayed clear year round (other than a problem with
string algae in the...

spurs of plain water shooting up...d'ya think it's...

I Need Cheap Feed! by
Cleo
Hello, all. For various reasons I haven't posted here in well over a year.
My pond and stream are doing very well as are my koi. I have 11 koi. Eight
of them are now 12" or longer and it's getting really expensive to feed
them. (I'd like to stop feeding altogether and let them make-do with...

Cats by
Cecil
We love cats and own a cat.....an INDOOR cat. Our neighbors (two
different neighbors) own more than one cat and they stay outdoors
all night and most of the day (the cats, not the neighbors). Problem
is, one cat loves to fish. She's the only cat I've caught in the act,
so I'm blaming her for all...

SKIPPY FILTER QUESTION by
Richard Holub
Hey,
Does anyone know if it is normar to find a skim layer of "black sludge" at
bottom of tank and directly on top of all filter media at end of season with
a Skippy Filter. I found approximately a 1/4 inch of sludge which did not
totaly "stink" but did have a slight hint of decomposition by...

Ping Tom LaBron re catfish food by
Phyllis and Jim Hurley
Tom,
A while ago (years) you mentioned publication(s) by Dr. Werner Steffens,
Dr. Roland Billard, and Dr. Robert Stickney and Dr.
John Halver regarding food for koi and catfish food. Do you happen to
have the reference to their stuff?

Mississippi is starting to have freezes. The pond is clearly going to

It appears the newsgroup is doing the same. We have adopted a simple policy
