Question on cleanup of used reef tank by
Chris Mares
Hi, everyone.
I recently purchased a used 65 gal reef tank.
I am planning to reuse it but it has been in storage for almost a year
in a "dirty" condition.
I wanted to know what is the best way to remove the old pink / purple
algae from the aquarium before setting it back up.
I am a little leery...

New tank with low Mg & Ca? by
David Hillyard
I have 1110 Mg & 350 Ca in a new tank. Can anyone shed any light on this
for me?
I have drained and cleaned a 240l planted freshwater tank thoroughly with
tap water. Left it to stand and dry for a few weeks in the garage and then
started to set it up as a marine system.
I filled it with (known...

Silicate sand and algae by
Hello;
What's the concensus on silicate sand and it's cause of algae? Reading on
the webb I'm getting mixed opinions. I'm having trouble with hair algae and
just greeening up the sides of the glass in a fish only tank. The sand is about
2/3 silicate and 1/3 aragonite. I've tested the water...

IS THERE A BETTER TEST KIT by
Peter Pan
I've been using Aquarium Pharmaceuticals test kit to measure the Ammonia,
Nitrites, Nitrates pH ect.. After taking the prescribed measure of water and
using their solution, and waiting the appropriate amount of time, you
compare it to the color strip cards they provide to the color of the test...

Less Alive Rock? by
StringerBell
I put my rock in a newly set-up tank about 48 hours ago. I figured what
initially appeared on the rock would continue once I got it submerged, I can
already tell that there has been some die off since putting it in. Some of
the "green" areas have receded. Some of the protrusions seem to have...

Hi. I am attempting to start a Deep Sand Bed Salt Water Aquarium. As
recommened on more then one web site I obtained play sand from home
depot and put in my empty aquarium. Then I put in the power heads,
filled the tank with water, added salt, and turned the power heads on.

red sand by

My tank is fairly new. I noticed that some of my sand is turning in red
color. Does anyone know that it is? And if it is bad, how could I remedy
this situation.
Thanks in advance,
TekCat

Still Having Problems Finding A skimmer by
Tim Kelly
A few months back several of you replied to a post I made asking for skimmer
recommendations, and the majority recommended ASM, Aqua C, or Euro Reef. All
these appear to be in-sump designs. Because I bought a wet-dry system (which
will now only be used as a sump) when I bought the tank, I don't...

snails? by
August West[_2_]
Hi all, I added some live rock to my tank. It was the most algae covered
rock at the LFS and it was in the "rubble" tank. It had been donated to them
by someone who dismantled their tank prior to a move.
Now a few months later, I am having a snail problem. I remove about a
hundred tiny little...

Diatoms by
KurtG
My diatoms are back. I replaced the material in my phosphate reactor
which knocked them back for a few days, but they rebounded again. My
nitrates and phosphates are both undetectable.
I'm thinking this is silicates although I'm still waiting the arrival of
my test kit. I thought my RO/DI unit...
