I finally took the plunge by
skozzy
It's been just talk for me for years but today I finally went from talking
to acting. I went to my L.F.S. and with a big wad of cash I bought all my
toys for my soon to be reef tank set-up. The advice from the guy at the
L.F.S. seemed to be complete. We talked for over an hour about...

Lots of little feather dusters by
BruceJ
Over the last few months, I have been getting LOTS of small white feather
dusters growing over most of my live rock.
Is this a GOOD sign, bad sign or what? What should I do? I do like them, if
it makes any differeance, I just am not sure if I should be concerned.
I do have several peices of coral...

Suppose you had the money... by
Mort
Let's say you have a budget of $700.00 to spend on lighting and you wanted a
48" "hood" with 300 - 500 watts of light (MH).
What would you get if you wanted to keep clams and other "light demanding"
creatures?
Also, if you were to get PC supplimentation, would it reduce that "rippling"
effect...

what's the point? by
rtk
What's to be gained? Have all the ramf posters on this list done
something very wrong to cause such vengeance? Is it just someone off
his meds reaching out into the great bland defenceless void of
newsgroups, a shooter of sitting ducks? It's more sad than annoying,
such an impotent hobby, the...

This is SOOOO weird by
rtk
Really creepy. The huge coral-banded shrimp shed his skin in its
entirety, and the empty thing is still moving! The real live fresh
shrimp is in his cave, within sight of this ghost. It really is weird
looking.

Toadfish by
John Setzler
Here's an interesting photo of a toadfish that I made recently. This
little guy lives in an aquarium at our local science museum. He was
right up against the glass for a great photo opportunity :)

My anemone won't open! by
Austen
I bought a simple (but big) condy long tentacle anemone. It was wide
open for about a week but moved around a lot, not attaching to
anything. It's been a couple of months now and it's still alive, but
just not taking in as much water as it could and still not attaching.
The tentacles are really...

New Sump by
coigula
I installed a new sump two weeks ago. It restes in a custom box made by
US Plastics. I feel very slight moisture around the back corner where
the return line goes in but can not say it is actually leaking.
The tank is in a large room, I run 1 150w and 2 250w bulbs about 10 and
8 hours. The...

scratched acrylic shield in light fixture by
Dave
Hello;
The acrylic shield in my light fixture (Coralife Aqualight) has scuffs
and scratches in it that can't be removed with water and household
cleaners. Can anyone recommend how to remove them? Or if I should
just go ahead and replace it, is there a particular type of acrylic
that is best for...

Small Starfish by
Brad Birch
I have been in the SW hobby for a few years now and things seem to be going
well. My wife has been bugging me about starfish and I was wondering if
there were any good small reef safe starfish available? My tank is a 25 gal
flatback hex with a 10 gallon sump and numerous softies and sps.

Corals disilike water change? by
Mpacyna
I have, intermittently, had corals react very poorly to water changes, to the
point of actually having some dieback. I have made sure that the temperature,
salinity, etc. are all within proper limits. I also do the water changes in a
matter of minutes so the pumps are not off for long at...

pH/ORP meter maintenance by
Pszemol
When monitoring pH in a fish tank with a regular glass electrode
how often do you clean/calibrate it? How long can single electrode
last before you need to replace it for a new one? What about ORP?

Anenome by
Dragon Slayer
he should find a spot he likes as long as no powehead or the such sucks him
up first.
feeding silversides is the best with deli shrimp next IMO. brine shrimp
aren't large enough to appeal to the anemone and I don't really think he
could catch enough of them to feed himself.

Looking to start first salt tank by
Duane
Hello, I'm looking to start my fist salt tank and was thinking 1 of 2 options
I have an extra 75 gallon that is one choice, it has an Emperor 400 bio wheel
filter and a 2 x 40watt light, and a 300 watt heater, but I would have to buy anything
else it needs (more light? skimmer, UV lamp, another...

Linkeas: Empire wreakers? by
rtk
The Blue Linkea is probably too big for a 29 gallon tank, but I wonder
if even a little orange or red one is as strong as it appears and might
topple my somewhat delicately balanced rocks. I don't know if you can
tell from this photo that I have many small live rocks as well as a few
big ones. ...
