Another iron question by
blank
Having managed to finally eliminate the hair algae in my 75 gal tank (no
CO2, low lighting), I added just 2mm of Seachem Flourish Iron to the tank
and within two days the damn algae is coming back. Is the fertilizer
encouraging this? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Plant Propagation by
Joseph
I'm planning on setting up a small tank (10g) to propagate plants for
my larger tank. This would be for low light plants, say Anacharis,
duckweed, java moss, etc. Would natural sunlight be enough for this?
If not I have some grow lights I can hang above the tank.
I won't have a filter hooked up...

How much water movement in 55G planted tank? by
Harry Muscle
I'm hopefully gonna be buying most of my equipment for my upcoming 55G
planted tank on Boxing Day (I think it's a Canadian thing ... lots of sales)
and I'm wondering if I should pick up a power head also to help out with
water movement. So far the only thing that I have planned to move...

Lighting by
Joseph
Currently on my tank I have the single strip aquarium light reflector
that came with the tank. I have a 40w bulb (common enough item), and
so I average about 1 watt / gal.
What's the cheapest way to increase my lighting levels? Do they make
120 watt florescent bulbs? Or do I need to change the...

Remedy for dieing plants. by
skozzy
A while ago I posted about my plants in ym tanks dieing soon after being
placed in the tank (fresh water).
The last bunch of plants I bought showed signs of dieing in the 1st week, by
the 2nd week it was almost gone, out of curiosity I removed the left over
plant and put it in a bucket of water...

Retail source for Crypts by
Bob Alston
What is the best retail source for crypts? I need some place that doesn't
have a large minimum purchase nor other add-on extras. Hopefully a place
with a good variety of species.

Odd neon tetra behavior with CO2 by
François Arsenault
Hello everyone,
This question is about fish, but since it has to do with CO2 injection,
something planted aquarium people are rather familiar with, I figured this
newsgroup was relevant enough. My apologies if you feel this is off-topic.
A few weeks ago I started adding CO2 to my water, and my...

400 Watt Metal Halide ~too much? by
John Little
I have a 400 watt metal halide on a 90 gallon corner style aquarium. I have
the choice of a 20K or 10K bulb. Wondering which one is the best for a
planted tank with Discus.
I have a smaller tank with 10K pc bulbs and that tank is doing fine. I was
just wondering if a 400 watt metal halide is too...

Type of ballast in All-Glass hoods by
Harry Muscle
I was wondering if anyone knows any information about the type of ballast
that All-Glass puts in their deluxe hoods. I'm especially interested in the
48*12 hoods (made for 55G) since I'm thinking of buying one of these and
adding more light to it. However, depending on the type of ballast...

Sand as substrate by
François Arsenault
Hello everyone,
Is regular sand, say of the typical sandbox type, an appropriate substrate
for a planted aquarium? At first I thought it would do just fine (which it
may be, for all I know). It's cheap, and I figured it might make it easier
to plant the plants than regular gravel.
However, I'm...

Lighting Question -length and interrupted lighting by
JHudson
Hi
I was reading somewhere that to help fight algae you can turn your lights
off 2-3 hours in the middle of the day. Has anybody done this? Any
experiences good or bad? Also regarding length, I read anywhere from 10hrs
to 15hrs a day for a tank. My tank is low light(just under 2...
