AGA Modern Series Hoods & CF Retrofits by
Ian
Has anyone purchased either an All-Glass Canopy or Oceanic Caps for their
aquariums? I am in the planning stages of purchasing a 75 gallon planted
tank. I have not been able to get any definitive specs in regards to the
specific inside layout of either of the two canopies I am leaning toward.
I'm...

Lighting Deep Tanks by
Daza
Problem: Without realizing how much light aquarium plants need I had a
34"x30"x14" aquarium made to fit into a wall recess. I've been reading
that most freshwater tropical fish prefer lower light levels that
exist in most natural streams. Anyway I've bought two 25w fluorescent
tubes since this was...

Fake Christmas Snow = Filter Floss? by
Ian
My local retail store is selling bags of this 100% polyester filling used to
simulate Christmas snow for like $3.00 for a large bag. Is this filling the
same kind of filter floss I see at my LFS for 4 times the price? If so, I'm
going to stock up on the stuff post Holiday when they'll sell them...

Planted tank by
Jerry
Hi, I'm new here and new to aquariums. I'm trying to start a planted
tank. My biggest question is about proper lighting. I've set up a 35
gallon tank I bought used. It has the standard light that comes with
aquariums. It has a 20W fluorescent bulb in it. I know this is too
small but am not sure how...

Airlock in Eheim Canister filter by
Simon
I need help.
I just set up a 20G planted tank (60 cm), including an Eheim 2222 canister
filter, compressed CO2, and a Fluval surface skimmer. I have to put the
Eheim filter on the same bench as the tank because of space problem. The top
of the filter is about 15 cm below the water level of the...

Does LUX Matter? by
Nick D
Hi all...
In my futile attempts to grow plants in my fish tank, I just purchased
a Hagen Sun Glo which has 125 Lux reading for a 24" bulb, which I
assume could grow some plants. On my next trip back to the Fish Store
I notice a Hagen Life Glo which had 235 Lux reading. Apparently, as I
understand...

GH/ PH Levels!?!? by
Nick D
Does anyone have any ideas about how to reduce GH without affecting
the PH? I have too much Calcium and Magnesium in my tap water and
would like to reduce it without compromising the PH levels. My GH
right now is 10deg, which is roughly 180-200ppm. I think this is too
high and it is also affecting...

Lobelia Cardinlais: Leaves curling downward by
alex crouvier
I have some Lobelia Cardinalis (Large form) in my 4-feet tank and
its leaves are beginning to curl downward and inward. The whole plants
look healthy, leaves look green. I couldn't be sure if this is a sign of
nutrient deficiency. Other plants are doing OK. I have more than
200 watt of CF lighting...

Almost free ferns by
Kudzu
I just cleaned out my tanks again. I have an abundance of baby java ferns
and a few bolbitus fern stems. The Java's vary from very small to medium
sized. The bolbitus will be only a stem of two. I just didn't have as many
of them.
If you want some of these same deal as I have offered in the past. ...

Advice sought for sparsely planted tank by
Alan Silver
Hello,
I am just setting up a cichild tank and would like to add some plants.
Given that cichlids view most plants as a salad, I am a bit restricted
as to what I can put in. I am going to try Java Fern and Anubias as
these can be fixed to the (fake) rock background, keeping them away from
the...
