Filter recommendations for planted tank by
^*^ Vosklady ^*^
Hello,
I've recently gotten into having live plants in my tank. I'm currently
running an AquaClear 500 on my 55 gal. I'm having to clean the filter out
often (to remove plant debris and not to clean the media) due to clogging.
Is there a filter out there that can handle plant debris without...

Carib Sea Live Plant Substrate by
Doug and Lois
My LFS recently began stocking a new substrate product "Carb Sea Live Plant
Substrate". Neither the owner of the store nor the employees know much about
the stuff. They haven't stocked it long enough to get much feedback on it.
Anyone here ever use it? Does it work well as a substrate for a live...

My alga == Staghorn == Cladophora? by
Mean_Chlorine
I've posted a number of images to my website of an alga which I'm
having a spot of problem with:
http://mikes-machine.mine.nu/algae_gallery.htm
I need help with the ID - is this, as I think, Staghorn algae, and is
this, as I think, a species of Cladophora?

charcoal to use or not by
Dick
I remember comments made that suggest charcoal is not always good to
use in a filter.
I wonder what the pros and cons are?
I have fresh water tanks. All tropical, wide varieties of fish
species.

is there a THRILL in keeping fish? by
BW
If you search for thrill in rec.aquaria you get some interesting
results. The thrill of owning rare breeds, the thrill of keeping
difficult varieties, the thrill of feeding live bait to carnivorous
fish, the thrill of your first cichlid breeding... I'd really like to
know more about people's most...

Hi,
Can you use Planttabs tablets or Flourish Tabs with an under-gravel setup?
Would it make the whole water environment too rich for the fish due to the
circulation?
Thanks

CO2 Controller and Buffers by
MJB
I just switched from a timer-based CO2 system to a CO2 controller. I was
getting a wide fluctuation in pH from 7.6 in the AM before the timer started
to 7.0 at the end of the lights-on cycle. Now I'm in the range of 6.9-7.1.
I use RO water and just switched from Kent's RO Right to...

Nitrates Off the Scale by
MJB
I recently went through the exercise of rebuilding my substrate using the
Plant Guild's mix of A.R.C. Clay and P.M.D.D. A couple of days later I
retested the water and noticed that my Nitrates reading was off the scale
(44ppm using LaMotte kit). All other readings were in the normal...
