calcium deficiency by
Darren
i have maybe a dozen snails in my heavily planted fish tank, and all have
very thin shells with white encrusting spots on their shells. is this a
sign of a Ca deficiency? the local water supply reported the our water has
a range of 4-31ppm Ca; how is this level?

"daylight" by
Paul
Hi I just bought a 110 gallon aquarium and the guy threw in a free fluro
tube for my light housing. I'm not sure of the brand name, but it's a 4
foot, 35watt, "daylight" model. another model made by this manufacturer is
called "coral blue". It says on the side of the packet that the light ...

plants - how now? by
Arnim
Hello again. I think I've pretty much got my lights, CO2, substrate,
fertilizer, trace elements, and general notion of the type of planted tank I
want all figured out for my big leap. When I set up my 55g tank way back
when, I was intrigued by the notion of a Southeast Asian biotope. I've had
my...

Best bulb for 20 gal? by
Jayne Narvesen
I just found this newsgroup and perhaps this question has been asked many
times...
I did my research on plants and purposely chose plants that will do well
with less light, and they are doing fine at this time. My tank is only a 20
gallon tall, but would like to know the best/brightest fluorescent...

Red Lotus moving in the tank by
Artur
I have a big Red Lotus that I want to move in another section of the
tank. Is there a special procedure for doing it? I don't want to lose
this plant. It's simply too beautiful to do that. I will look for your
input in the near future. Thanks.
By the way, which plants would you also put in a 10...

Seltzer Water by
Dick
I want to experiment with CO2. I read once that Seltzer water could be
used to add CO2 to the water. If this is feasible I wonder what would
be approximate formula for a 75 gallon tank. I found quarts at my
local market with no salt.

Lighting requirements by
bp100a
I'm curious about the "2 watts per gallon" rule.
First, different lighting technologies produce significantly different
amounts of lights (lumens) per watt. So how can there be a simple rule like
"2 watts/ gallon"???
Right now I have 3 x 55 watt CF on a 75 gallon tank. This works out to the
"2...

ASL PC unit by
Skunky
Has anybody had any experience with this T5 PC unit. Compared to others
I've seen in the U.K it seems good value. It holds four bulbs, two 55
watt and two 36 watt.
Thanx

Petrified Wood - PH by
Boris
I have some petrified wood which I bought years ago and was thinking of
putting it in my planted tank.
From what I remember, it should not raise PH. I did a few searches on Google
and had some conflicting reports - but most suggested it is PH neutral.
Anyone using it in their planted...

Thinking about a planted tank by

I have a 33gallon tank(was a starter kit) that I was thinking of making into
a planted tank. Without any major upgrades would it be feasible? What are
good sources of plants? Would I have to break down the tank and start from
scratch to make it work? What are good websites are there for...

Weird Algae Help by
Connor Maltsberger
I recently have had this weird sort of algae growing on the leaves of
many of my plants in my 30g planted tank. As far as I can tell from
internet resources it is 'staghorn' algae, which i have never heard of
- appearently none of the LFS people have heard of it either. its
kind of thread-like...
