Lead in the tank by Dan Norgard
Hi, This might be a wierd question but does pure lead hurt the fish or water? I am a Tinsmith and in my work I have 1/4" strips of almost pure lead as scrap and was wondering about the safety of using them as plant weights. Thanks to all, this group has been great help! Dan

Overdriving NO tubes by Mort
Is anyone here familiar with overdriving NO fluorescent tubes? I met a DIYer today that does this to his lamps. Apparently you replace the balast with a higher output Electronic ballast (About $10 from home depot) and it can double even triple the output of the bulb. It operates at a higher...

Planting a 3 week old tank and propagating a 2 year old sword rhizome by McCord Tech
This is my first time posting a question, so forgive me if I make any errors. I just set up a 40 gallon long in my grandparents bedroom 3 weeks ago. They love it. They watch it more than TV (LOL, too bad, I think the TV was cheaper). My grandparents are 86 and 92. They live with my parents...

Chlorophytum sp. by levittd
I know Chlorophytum (spider plants) are squarely terrestrial, but a friend who ran a hydroponics shop said that they will grow underwater just fine. So I set up a small tank (10 gal, no fish, no CO2, not even a filter, one compact flourescent) and placed several "babies" in it, planted in sand....

To water change, or not? by Harry
I am fairly new to the planted aquarium community, so please solve some incongruities, if you could. When I had just plastic plants in my aquarium, I was told to change 15%-20% of the water every week because of the build up of Nitrates in the water. The idea, as I understood it, was that there...

What 15 watt bulb to use? by Jimbo
Hi: I'm setting up a new "low light" 10 gal. aquarium and was wondering what bulb would be best to use. I'm going to use a 15 watt flourescent with a standard hood with no glass between the water and bulb. Tank will have flourite substrate and full of "low light" plants. Any suggestions? ...
