Plant bath? by
Craig D
I hope this doesn't seem like a silly question but I seem to remember
someone telling me that they washed their local found water plants in a
chlorine/water bath in order to get rid of any clinging eggs or larvae
that may be living hidden from view on the plants.
Does anyone know what the best...

Sand or Gravel? by
rapdor
I'm probably only a few days away from bringing home my 4' freshwater
aquarium, which I aspire to eventually have fairly densely planted. The
filter is similar to an external filter (except that it's incorporated into
the hood) with the filtered water returning at the top of the tank. The
hood...

I've got a Samolus Parviflorus which was doing really well about a month

the whole setup. (overkill, i know) Since then, it has been developing
light algae.

hornwort growth rates by
Gbruce121
hey all..
I just had a quick question. I just got back from petsmart and i picked up
some hornwort for my 29 gal community tank. I really like the way it looks,
and wanted to find out how much of it I should get. The tank could probably
hold three or four plants of the size I had purchased, but...

Assorted aquatic bulbs.... question by
jduprie
Hey folks,
my LFS had a major overstock of a bunch of "assorted bulbs", and thtey made
me an offer I couldn't refuse. So now I've got a couple dozen random plants,
all of them with bulbs on the bottom. Most of them are pretty scraggly,
heart shaped leaves, mostly green, some purples. A couple of...

New to planted tanks by
Sarah
I would like to put together a planted 30g tank but I have no idea
where to start. I've found a lot of websites online but I don't want
to take advice from just any website.
I figure a 30g tank would be large enough to start out with but what
equipment am I going to need? How do I pick the...

Crypt's dying off? by
Paige
We have a 12 gallon planted Eclipse tank. It's very established but I've
noticed lately that every so often the Crypt's start to melt by themselves
and then come back. The only other plants in the tank are anubia's and they
are doing very well. My question is: is the tank too small for all...

Nymphea Lotus Zenkeri - Question by
sexandcheerios
It MAY encourage new submerged leaves but then again if it's trying to reach
the surface it more than likely will keep trying to do so. If you're gonna
remove it do so at the lowest point possible. If you cut it higher up, the
remaining stalk will start to decay and could possibly introduce some...

Snails and Clown Loaches by
Poe Lim
How do you make your clown loaches eat snails? I have 5 in a 280L aquarium,
and have heaps of ramshorns snail that might have come in with a plant
(although all were bleached) or fish; although they seem happy enough, they
don't seem to take any interest in snails (as in eating them), contrary...

Include plants when cycling tank? by
LeighMo
When starting up a new tank using the fishless cycle method, should I
include aquatic plants or just the gravel and driftwood?
If this is going to be a high-light, CO2-injected tank, consider using Chuck's
no-cycle method:

No more stem plants for me! by
Victor M. Martinez
I finally got tired of the weedy stem plants that shaded my tank a couple
of days after pruning them. So I decided to redo the tank and get rid of
all the stem plants. I ordered a bunch of small sword-type plants online
(great service, btw aquariumplant.com) and today I got to work. I took out
a...

PC ballast/socket & pin configurations by
Djay
The Workhorse 5 is not a kit, just a ballast with the appropriate Black
White wires for AC input and Red and Yellow wires for connecting to you
light sockets. You will have to get the sockets on your own. They can be
wired for either bi pin tubes (T12, T8 etc) or for CF. Just follow the
wiring...

Waiting OK? by
Dan Norgard
Hi;
I just received an order of plants (Wisteria, Sprite, Java fern and Anubia
nanas) but the Flourite won't arrive for another week. Is it ok to just let
them float around for a week and plant them after the Flourite gets here or
do I need to plant them now and uproot and replant later?
Thanks...

What's the trick with cabomba? by
RedForeman ©®
I was told that it's because of too much blue in the spectrum, or something
similar... One color makes it grow tall, one color makes it bushy, not
tall.... IIRC, blue makes it go tall, red makes it bushy.... Anachris is the
same way, if the light has more reds, it'll be bushier leaves,...
