lighting question by
Dan J.S.
I received a lot of plants over the weekend. They are mostly java fern.
These plants grew crazy in a 55 gallon tank, and I put them in my 120 gallon
tank. I upgraded my lighting to a JBJ 4 x 96 watt bulbs. Do you think this
is enough light to keep these going as strong?

Jaybird
Hi all.
New to the group, just wanting to introduce myself and at the same
time ask a question.
I'm an avid aquarist from South Africa and have been playing around
with various "biotope" type aquariums.
What I've always wanted was a Congo Basin Biotope aquarium, the only
problem with this is...

actinc bulbs in freshwater tank? by
John Sankey
See http://sankey.ws/plantlumen.html
Marine animals absolutely need lots of blue (actinic) but an
excess is of no use at all for fresh water plants. Mind you
I haven't looked to see if they are of any use for fish, snails
or other animals in freshwater aquaria - they might be.
As long as you...

petsmart lights? your thoughts by
John Sankey
Try Walmart - I'll bet they have lower prices!
And, with any luck there will be one close enough you won't
have to pay shipping.

plants wanted by
John Sankey
I'm looking for aquatic mosses and ferns and can't find any
store local that carries any, nor have I managed to locate
a Canadian firm who will send them by mail.
I'm not looking for anything super exotic, even a source of
Marsilea quadrifolia or Fontinalis antipyretica in Canada
would be greatly...

Beard Algae in a 10G by
UnworthyDuDe
Another thing that can cause this is to much natural sunlight, Over
fertilizing, and over feeding, allowing the tank to build up an abundance of
food that your plants do not need if you have any at all, also depending on
location, and municiple flitration can also be taddle tail cause of...

wasabi farming by

Hi Folks
This might be slightly off topic, but I thought you might be
interested. I write an e-zine about aquaculture, and I've recently
published an interview with Michel Van Mellaerts who (with his wife)
have developed a method of growing wasabi in a recirculating system. In
the wild, wasabi...

Beard Algae in a 10G by
stuarth
Treatments won't work. As soon as the treatment stops the algae comes
back.
Best thing you can do is reduce feeding levels, increase water changes
(I'd do 50% a week) or get yourself a Siamese flying fox fish.
See http://www.thefishwiki.com/Siamese_Flying_Fox
I've got 2 of these in a 55G tank...

Untill recently I was unable to find a test to tell me what my
phosphate levels were.
Well, I finally found a phosphate test and it says that the phosphate
