LM
hi all,
I'm thinking about moving one of my well-established amazon sword plant
few inches from its current position.. (tank is currently
free-standing, but i'm moving it to be against a wall, so I'm thinkng
about moving the taller plants towards the back of the tank)
the killer is that my tank...

I've just found a source of these things "I can get anything".
I'd like to hear if there are any tubs people can't find or
can't find easily, especially CF biax and euro-only ones.
What do you guys in Europe use?

algae growth and plant density by
John H.
I was wondering if increasing the amount of plants on my tank will cut down
on algae growth. If I keep everything else
constant, light hours, CO2, etc...?
I have this persistant hair algae problem that I'm keeping under control
with tank cleaners, otos primarly, but once
they clean off a leaf,...

Trying to set up CO2 equipment...what an adventure by
ah
I was excited to get my CO2 equipment in the mail today finally. It
was harder to set up than I would have expected. I got all the stuff
connected, but then I was having trouble keeping a steady stream of
bubbles flowing...it would get going at a decent clip, about one per
second, then I'd check...

Eco-Complete Review? (cross Post fm rec.freswater.misc) by
Jim Conklin
I'm setting up a new 90 gal discus/planted tank and thought I'd give it
a try rather then the Flourite Red that I have in the other tank. (I've
had no problems with the Flourite, just thought I'd try something else.)
Here's a...

Why does laterite fizz when placed in water? by
Peter Wilson
When I place laterite in plain tap water (alkaline) it's produces very tiny
bubbles and fizzes for a few moments and keeps releasing tiny bubbles for at
least a minute.
Does anyone know what this gas is?
What is your laterites pH?
What does laterite feel like when you put it on your tounge? My...

Potassium Sulfate by
Charles
I decided to add some to a tank, figured out what I thought would be
an appropriate amount. For about 144 liters of water I thought 0.6
grams would be right, a chunk I picked up weighed 0.5, so I went with
that.
Reading Christel Kasselmann's book, she says to use 8 grams per
hundred liters to...

How to Start CO2 injection? by
ah
I have a 75 gallon tank with about fifteen rainbow fish. I've ordered
CO2 equipment which should arrive this week.
What's the best way to start this up? Do I just run it for brief
periods of time at first, like an hour a day, and gradually build it
up? I don't want to make any massive changes...

SmartPaq Eclipse lighting retrofit by
jkpe
Has anybody used these compact flourescent retrofit kits in their
Eclipse hood? I have an Eclipse 1 twin lamp, and the light fixture is
shot. My original plan to give up on the 10 gallon tank and just buy a
bigger tank, hood, stand, filter, etc. for some reason seems to exceed
my budget, so I am...

Yellow tips on Amazon swords? by
ah
I just upgraded my 75 gallon tank with a 110 watt compact fluorescent
and a 40 regular tube light. I wanted to take another shot at growing
plants...recently all I've had in there were java ferns which are no
brainers.
I put a couple Amazon swords in, hoping the added light would keep
things...

Potassium by
Charles
I see sulfate recommended, I wonder why. I have lots of stuff in my
water already, the only export capability I know for sulfate would be
conversion to H2S, or water change.
Why not nitrate, the plants could use it, or carbonate, which the
plants could use, or chloride. people are forever...

Philodendron experiment by
Dan J.S.
I have a tank full off aggressive fish that eat any plant that I put into
the tank (they even chewed up some plastic ones). So I decided to do a
little experiment. Went to home depot, got a philodendron, and rinsed the
dirt away. I then wrapped the roots into nylon and stuck just the roots into
my...

CO2 tanks by
[email protected]
Has anyone tried using paintball tanks for their aquariums? I have been
considering making the jump to a pressurized system but want to spend
as little cash as possible (and still have a system worth having). It
looks like I could buy a used 20oz. paintball CO2 tank for dirt cheap!
Would this run...

New Shrimp Pics Posted by
Richard Sexton
I finally got off my lazy butt and posted a few pics of Atyopsis moluccensis and Attya gabonese,
the latter being the most scretive shrimp I've ever had, but also the most personality. You
would swear they're the smartest shrimp around too.
People feed these things? I don't, they just live in a...

What type of fluorescent tubes for planted tank? by
Shorty
I have a triple T8 strip light. It came with full spectrum 8000K tubes.
I'm wondering whether I should replace some of them by other types for
a planted tank.
How about leaving one in, adding one 6500K and one 5000K?
Also, I know that a lot of power compacts come with moon lights (LEDs).
Is there...

Possible Reasons for small foliage growth? by
[email protected]
Hello all, I recentley replaced the HOB filter on my 10g planted tank.
The anacharis is still growing very quickly, but the new growth has
very small leaves (compared to the new growth with the old filter).
This filter creates a stronger current than the previous. Could the
stronger current be...
