dying sword plant by
john
My sword plant is in trouble. The leaves are melting/rotting, and the
crown of the plant looks questionable. I have recently started doing
more frequent water changes, I have read that changes in water quality
can cause this. However, I just realized that I misread the label on my
water treater,...

prunning Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis)? by
Jim Anderson
Need to start prunning Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis).
Most of what I read is just chop it off and stick the top in the gravel.
There are 3 types of growth from the plant that I don't know how to deal
with and would like some advice;
Straight white roots(?) growing down to the gravel from the...

Pregnant or ill shrimp? by
Nikki Casali
Ooooooh! Can anyone point me to a photo of a "pregnant" amano shrimp?
Two of my shrimp look like they are brooding amongst the watersprite.
They have a grey mass between their legs. Maybe they're ill! Maybe
they're not! What do I do?? Shall I setup a brackish tank?

can pl*cos and plants coexist? by
Scott Far Thunder
Hau kolas..quick question; I'm getting contradictory answers, thought I'd assimilate whatever you can contribute. I've a 100-gallon tank that I'm thinking of converting to planted. However, one of the occupants ofthis tank is a common pl*co who is fairly large at about 16" of length. I've had...

Testing screw in fluorescents by
dfreas
Not too long ago there was a short discussion on the effectiveness (or
lack thereof) of these bulbs. For a recap do a google group search on
"Screw in fluorescent bulbs" One of the points that was brought up was
that the problem may be that the bulbs Richard used were soft whites
instead of 6500K...

CO2 bottle refill UK by
NCG
Hello,
I have a 500g JBL CO2 bottle which I currently refill by taking it to
the fish shop and having it replaced for a filled bottled for £9.
I was trying to look for other cheaper alternatives and made some phone
calls, but it seems that gas suppliers would only do that if you rent
the bottle...

Looking for a good weed.... by
[email protected]
I was wondering if anyone here has ever grown anachris or hornwort at a
temperature of 79-82 degrees fahrenheit? I had tremendous hornmort
success/growth a long time ago but only at a temperature of 68 degrees
or less fahrenheit and I wanted the temp to be higher so I got rid of
it. I tried...

How does watts per gallon compare with CF lighting? by
DaveSurfer
Does anyone have a chart or a comparison from standard fluorescent watts per
gallon to compact fluorescents? I'm looking at lighting a 30 gallon tank
with 2 x 55W CF from AH Supply. I think that might be a bit over kill being
3.7WPG. There are also 2 x 36W.
Thanks!!
Dave.

Filtering H2O by
quiser
Dose anyone filter their tap water before putting it in their tanks to
reduce/remove nutrients. If so is there a cheap DYI system. I am having
problems with algae and I am sure it stems from the water here.

Discolored Ambulia? by
spiral_72
I bought a beautiful large leaf Ambulia plant 16 days ago. Since then
the majority of the plant has turned a green/brown color while the
newest leaves and the tips of the old leaves remain a bright green. I
read these symptoms are either too little iron or too many phosphates
in the water. I don't...

coldwater tank, plants, algae & lighting... by
sophie
I have a four foot coldwater tank, which until a month or so ago had no
hood and no lights - it gets slanting sun in the afternoon, and the only
plant I had in there was creeping jenny, which I appreciate isn't an
aquatic plant, but has grown happily for me over about eight months.
A month or so...

Aquatic Plant Fertilizer & Fish by
DNT
Does anyone know if Little Giant Aquatic Plant Fertilizer (10-14-8) can be
used in a planted aquarium with fish? I bought it for a pond but I'm having
problems with algae in my tank and I thought it might be because I've been
using liquid plant food. I can't find any aquarium plant tablets around...
